Only the best Indian food I’ve eaten so far (and I come from MY/ SG where this cuisine is in abundance). It’s the combination of fresh poultry (pretty sure), em’ chef grilling/dough making talent & skills cause it’s the bomb 💣. All the protein from my platter seemed underwhelming aesthetically but it’s a party in my mouth. So tender, juicy, well marinated & robust it’s crazy. Don’t even it lamb but whutttt 🤯🤯🤯 couldn’t stop eating it. Even the Rogan josh comes second to this platter, but it’s a very complex flavoured & aromatic dish which was tender too. The naan was the mother of all breads coz it’s so fluffly, soft & aromatic it’s CRAZY why is it so good. It’s the town fav hotspot on a weekday night with dine ins and plenty of takeaways and I understand why. It’s big and spacious inside. Not much frills but there’s a kids play area with a playhouse slide. Service...

I have come to Tekapo for a holiday and travelled to Geraldine to get some Indian food , we chose this restaurant based on reviews , , we didn’t pre book a table , we were tired after a big day and hiking nearby , as there was a table near the window , one of my colleagues requested if this could be given as we are from the country of his origin ( Desi) the gentleman serving us was very rude and said it is already reserved you can have the table at the end , we took the table and suddenly the gentlemen comes asks us to leave and find food somewhere else , such attitude to Indian origin and Indian customers is really appalling , the person has no respect for the customer and his poor treatment left us stunned . If you are Indian I wouldn’t think of entertaining this place . I normally don’t give bad feedback but this has left us all in...

Geraldine isn't exactly a hot spot for dining out(!) but we chose to have a meal here at the Royal India as a send off with family before we headed back home to the north island. Recent reviews had given a good impression of the place so we were hopeful of some good food. We were not disappointed! Everyone at our table was making all the right noises with every mouthful. Flavours and heat were just perfect. And the cocktails also made for a most enjoyable night. Service was welcoming and friendly. Only a very minor problem was that they forgot our entre so this arrived with our mains instead. But as the food was so good we were willing to overlook this. I'm prepared to stick my neck out and say this was one of the best Indian meals I've had in New Zealand. We'll make a point of going again next time...

A group of six of us randomly walked in on a Friday night and were seated and served immediately. Although we waited a while for the food, everything was served hot and delicious. Palak paneer was a winner, lamb vindaloo was scrumptious with a good tang, tender and flavourful. Butter chicken and briyani were comforting and good for children. Choice of spice level for every dish could be personalised, great for a group of Asians with varying levels of spice tolerance. The biggest surprise was the huge selection of whiskies and spirits displayed, but available to taste. Some rare and hard to find whiskies were amongst his collection but not listed on his menu. Picking one to try and pair with our curries was a highlight.

Wow! Authentic Indian food, amazing customer service, lots of items in the menu and little kids👶 play area as a bonus 😍. I highly recommend trying Chicken Tikka for starter, Lamb Rogan Josh for mains and Kadhai Paneer if you are vegetarian. My wife and I were very impressed with the softness of paneer, we mostly try Kadhai Paneer in Indian restaurants and this was one of the best I have tried in New Zealand. Your little kids will not be bored as there is a kids play area. My son loved his mango lassi, I am so glad we stopped at this Indian restaurant in Geraldine for our meal while we were on our road trip in South Island.
