2 people for dinner. we stayed at the Mercure. We received our complimentary house wine, they were okay. No complaints on comp drinks. For food we ordered 1 entree (to share) and 2 mains with a side greens salad. The entree was the char grilled prawns, it came with edamame beans and green beans. It looks really nice and the prawns were good, the beans could have had more flavour or a pinch more salt (which we could have added I suppose, I usually prefer to eat the dish as the chef intended). In saying that I would get the prawn dish again as the prawns were cooked just right (juicy and bit of a bite but tender). The mains were the salmon and the eye fillet (medium rare). The salmon had a good crispy skin, it was cooked well. A bit boring flavour wise even though it came with a jus and a yuzu sauce options. (I can't remember the name of the white sauce exactly) The eye fillet came with the same sauce options. I had it with the yuzu sauce with it, it was nice. I don't think you can go wrong with eye fillet. It was cooked to my liking and the flavour as I expect. The side greens salad was average, I wouldn't order this again as I had some bad leaves in it. I think for a restaurant standard they should pick out the bad leaves, as I would at home. Other than that the flavour was nice. We ended it with a scoop of ice cream each. They put both together even though we ordered separately, which is fine as it was rectified by the waitress quickly. I ordered a shot of espresso and made mine into an affogato. I think there is potential as the views...
Read moreCame in to celebrate my birthday dinner. Ordered the beef cheeks and the pork belly. The beef cheeks were fantastically tender and perfectly moist. The mash and jus were also on point. The pork belly was very moist and succulent. The belly itself was semi crunchy, would have loved it to be a bit more crunchy, however it was pretty good despite this. The mushroom sauce perhaps needs a bit of work, however that could easily be a matter of personal preference. The salmon brandade and the venison carpacchio were both delicious and well presented. The cocktails were great and complimented the mood of the night very well. Had the beeramisu and the chocolate fondant. I would have preferred the tiramisu to be a little less soggy, however the taste was definitely there. The chocolate fondant was perfect, complete with oozing chocolate. Customer service by all wait staff was absolutely phenomenal (Very attentive and hospitable) and food came out in a very timely manner. You definitely have to give this restaurant a try if you are wanting a fine dining menu without the pretentiousness and...
Read moreIt’s called south eatery now with new menu. This hotel restaurant is everything - great view, reasonable price, friendly staffs, and amazing food. I was feeling car sick when I arrived at the restaurant and wanted to vomit, let alone the idea of food. My partner kindly organised this dinner in advance and I forced myself to order. But surprisingly the blackened tuna with pineapple was so refreshing and delicious that I recovered from motion sickness and finished the whole meal! It’s not packed with madness like Queenstown central, in summary - hidden gem...
