Did the summit via the one mile creek route to go up, And we did tiki trail to come back down. We are not regular mountain hikers just 2 people who think our fitness level met the requirements. We did 3 hours total up from the trailhead with a ten minutes wrong way (don't cross that bridge that goes to fernhill) i think the trail signage at the fork can be a bit better While in the woods, well definitely u can tell its not that well maintained as tiki trail. I was happy i got a stick in the woods that helped the last ascent to summit from the saddle!! So find a stick if you dont have one! (50% of ppl would have walking poles) Stick would also help when you are descending too! (We did 2.5 hour down back to beacon st) Anyways its a good hike nevertheless Would say moderate for 2/3 and hard for last 1/3 Further subjective pov- i dont think its needed to go from bottom, go up via gondola stop would be equally rewarding! (Unless you want to prove you can do it)

A very rewarding hike to the top, I started at One mile car park and hiked up One Mile Hiking track to meet up with the Ben Lomond track at 5 am. Currently the One Mile track is closed however if you are an experienced tramper with a good head lamp you can make it through safely before continuing up the very well looked after Ben Lomond track up to the saddle. From there to the summit the trail get steeper to an intermediate level of difficulty with small step, rock sections and shale rock. Once you summit it is very worth it, I was lucky enough to make it up on a clear day and meet some friendly local Kea parrots. I climbed up and down with a miniscus tear due to previous hikes and it took 7.5 hours with an extended stop at the summit. Worth it though as it was the last hike of my trip.

PERMANENTLY CLOSED! this entry is for the 1 Mile trail which will get you to the start of the Ben lomond trail. It is permanently closed for hikers as the track is dangerous, they won't tell you this until you are halfway up the track. From there on they will divert you to another track but that's a mountain bike track (which hikers aren't officially even allowed on) with zero directions. Conclusion is that you should just not start the ben...
