The Thomas Green Public House & Dining Room — Restaurant in South Island

Sunday 4th February. Here with my wife and another couple for lunch. What a nice looking and beautifully restored place. I wouldn't have known about it but for my wife. Pleasant to walk into and good initial service from staff. Each of us done different orders. Blue Cid battered, blue cod pan fried, chicken, seafood chowder. I had the seafood chowder which is normally riské as most places seem to make very floury chowder. Not so this place. Very nice seafood chowder and I'd come back for it. Each of us enjoyed our food, nil complaints at all and reasonable/good portion sizes. We all had a problem with the coffee however. Very bitter and requiring lots of sugar to knock the bitterness off. We did speak to staff about it and they acknowledged the issue. Staff: I can't remember the young ladies name. We went there for brunch , staff took their time to seat us and a ordered eggs Benedict, well I've never had had such dry salmon in my life was like leather and it was the wrong kind of smoked salmon , also a chap came and sat at a table close by the waitress after placing his order was told to move by them and he was drinking his coffee at the time , she stated the table was booked but nobody had sat there the entire time after he left and he left as soon as the waitress told him " you have to sit over there this table is booked" he left in disgust didn't even finish his coffee , mean while we were still waiting on ours , 2 waitresses talking over by the till and one young running around doing all the serving , decor was nice...

Never have I ever received such an insulting service from a restaurant in my life time. We felt unwelcomed! Food plates was rudely put on our table, we had to get up and go to the counter to order drinks, then to order mains, after the wait of an hour for our children’s food, and an hour and a half for ours. We were never asked for dessert.!!!

A smile on the service lady’s face to too much to ask for… We were told about it’s a luck to get a service out of this restaurant, but we went by the reviews online, now I wish I had listened to them.
