Coming from visiting Tawhiti Museum, we found and decided to dine in at Upside Down after discovering that almost all of the cafes in Hawera are closed on Sundays. The exterior and interior of the restaurant are quite nice and welcoming. We were welcomed and given menu and make us decide a place to seat. Our table was not properly wiped as we found a strand long hair in it. Our server came to ask us about our orders but offer no water or where to get one. Though we ordered milkshakes, a bottle of cold water is much appreciated. Our drinks and foods came out fast. The banana and berry milkshake were tasty and nice. Our foods consisting of the Austrian Schnitzel and Fetuccini. The latter was unfortunately so unseasoned even though I put heaps of salt on it still tasted bland. The alfredo sauce seemed to be lacking of flavour. I have been hunting for the perfect Fetucinni Al Pollo since my last great tasting pasta was from an Italian restaurant at Baltimore, USA prior Covid. Ended up not eating it all. The Schnitzel was quite delicious so my partner had a happy tummy. Altogether, attention to details like cleaning the table properly is highly recommended. Visibility of drinking water is a must especially that the staff did not give or offer us at all.

4 of us dined in for my husbands birthday dinner, we were greeted by a very nice waitress and shown to our table. I was so happy to see the different dietary options they provide on the menu. I ordered a chicken burger (changing to GF option), their fries aren't GF since they are cooked in the same vat as gluten containing products so they offered to do me a potato mash which came with pumpkin chutney, and ordering GF garlic bread as entrée (there were 3 but I already ate one before taking the photo!) The food was absolutely amazing! Both waitress and waiter were fabulous and the restaurant/Cafe itself is very cozy and very fair in pricing. We have found our favorite eatery.

Absolutely beautiful meal tonight. Service was friendly and quick, atmosphere was nice. A really delicious meal cooked by chef Daveena - thank you so much, we will definitely be back. The meals are a good size and after having the lovely rewena bread we then had the lamp rump and duck for mains, we were too full for dessert so we bought them as takeaway desserts and ate them at home later - the sticky date pudding was to die for! Thanks again.

Went with a friend. There is no doubt cafe looks the part with adequate parking and beautiful garden. On offer was a blackboard menu along with a selection of cabinet ready to eat foods. Also menu folders available at counter for meals. We arrived at 10am. A customer nearby was told she would have to wait for a cabinet savoury as they were not quite ready, she waited about 20minutes. My cabinet selection was minimal as by choice I'm vegetarian. So I chose a large savoury muffin ( butter cost extra), with a medium sized latte. Water was placed on our table. My friend picked a slice with her coffee. I enjoyed the coffee however was extreamly disappointed with the muffin, it was so dry and crumbly that it stuck to the roof of my mouth. After two small bites I discarded it. This cafe is very expensive and I expected that the food would be worth it. Sadly on this occasion I did not think so. My friend however did enjoy the slice. She was not served her coffee at the same time as me, after apout a twenty minute wait she approached a staff member to remind her she was still waiting. Over all a...

As a group of 10-15 people we used to go here once a month for lunch, unfortunately it now has new owners. Just after they took over we went for lunch I had the lunch special Roast Beef, it was awful the meat tasted like a dish rag, when I told the waitress in front of the new owner she turned to the new owner that she had told him to throw that meat out because it was too old. I gave them the benefit of doubt as the had good reviews since, but I think they were fictitious & went there today & ordered a open steak sandwich medium rear, the owner came over & informed me they cannot do it medium rear because the steak is too thin to which I replied is it just schnitzel which he denied. So I changed my order because I wanted a steak to a pulled pork Burger with salad, I got a burger with a pork mince patty(NOT PULLED) with chips no salad, at least it tasted ok. Don't waste your money here there are much better eateries in Hawera. I will not be back, gave them a second chance & was left...
