If it wasn't for this gem in central otago our second trip to the region in as many months would have been our last. Even in these times when it is hard to find even enough staff just to operate the Merchant of Clyde has an excellent crew that are friendly, inviting and informative. No one minds waiting a little when they're told it "may" take a while for your order and let me tell you the wait wasn't really long. Queenstown operations should look to this well run ship to get at the very least some idea of what hospitality means.
Now for the food. So, we stopped here on the Saturday on the way to Queenstown and decided to come back on the Sunday because the service, the food and the coffee was just that great.
To the team and management of Merchant of Clyde be very proud of what you are doing and please keep doing it for the sake of the reputation of hospitality in New Zealand.
Personal note, Cheese rolls are to die for, worth every cent, so are the scones. Perfect. Ps three cheese roll in the photo it's only the last little bit... Sorry I...

Barista's (and I use that term loosely) suggestion was I have a coffee with a single shot (as if that would solve a poorly prepared coffee). Another coffee was delivered and it was slightly better (less bitter) but after two sips, I couldn't drink any more and left. Two hours later I still had the bitter taste on my palate. Really not good enough given how much is charged for a coffee these days! Very...
Read moreIncredibly rude barista made for a disappointing experience. We stopped for quick bite to eat and were told when ordering food and drinks there was quite a long delay with the coffees, my friend requested in that case if it could be in a takeaway cup (as we were going to leave as soon as we finished eating). To which the barista commented about her not saving the environment. My poor friend tried to explain we didn't have much time and she does have a keep cup but it's in the car, and felt like she'd been told off and came away feeling very embarrassed and upset as she is usually very conscientious about that sort of thing. Soup of the day was delicious with lovely bread but the vegetable fritata muffin thing was very bland and not...
