My palette had the pleasure of savouring the magic of Malaysian cuisine at this humble yet wonderful restaurant, where the star of the show was unequivocally the Fried Noodles Char Kueh Teow. The rich culinary heritage of Malaysia unraveled on my plate as I bit into the beautifully wok-fried flat rice noodles. Every mouthful was an explosion of flavor, brimming with the robust savoury, subtly sweet, and tantalizing spicy notes. The sheer delight of tasting the flat noodles, perfectly cooked with the ideal 'wok hei' or breath of the wok, was heightened by the thoughtful balance of spices that didn't overpower but rather enhanced the inherent flavour of the dish. The Char Kueh Teow wasn't just about the noodles though. Generous portions of succulent prawns, tender slices of Chinese sausage, and plump cockles all came together to create a delightful texture that made each bite more memorable than the last. The subtle smokiness of the dish was perfectly offset by the crisp bean sprouts and the delicate, aromatic chives, adding an exciting dimension to the dish. What I truly appreciated was the attention to detail - the omelette was perfectly scrambled and lent a unique creaminess that intertwined flawlessly with the spicy, savory, and subtly sweet elements. The garnish of fresh lime on the side was a masterstroke, its tanginess giving a refreshing lift to the overall experience. The ambiance of the restaurant complements the food beautifully. A tasteful blend of traditional and contemporary decor creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. And of course, the staff are friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about sharing their culinary heritage, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. It's rare to find a place that delivers such authenticity with a touch of elegance. The Fried Noodles Char Kueh Teow at this restaurant has truly been a revelatory experience - a testimony to the diversity, complexity, and deliciousness of Malaysian cuisine. It's a dish and a restaurant I'd enthusiastically recommend to any food lover in a heartbeat!

So nice we came here twice! I normally never try to repeat a restaurant while on vacation but this place was special. They serve some really delicious Malaysian and Asian dishes that make it a popular choice at all hours of the day. The two dishes we were mesmerized by were the Hainanese chicken and laksa curry. Both together make a great dinner combo. The chicken was really tender and the rice infused with the chicken umami was so delicious. Coupled with a tangy dipping sauce and a few cucumbers to cleanse the pallette, it hit all the right notes. The laksa curry was the star dish for us here. The soup is thick and savoury. It’s got the right amount of heat to warm you up yet you can’t help drinking more spoonfuls of that broth. There was good amounts of seafood hiding underneath the surface of the deep yellow broth along with the noodles that held up their own. Some things to note about this place: 1. the place doesn’t look glorious but it seems like they have been filling happy tummies for a long time 2. you go up to order and pay first then they will bring the food to your table when it is ready. 3. Feel free to help yourself to tea at the store counter 4. Nevermind a few flies that may be buzzing around the restaurant. It really doesn’t detract from the food they are serving. We highly recommend this restaurant to those that are looking for a good meal at a great value.

Very rude and disrespectful staff!! Would have not given a single star. Have tried mee goreng, chicken satay and roti chanai with lamb curry. Where, lamb curry was very average and roti chanai was none but A SCAM !!! Have been to many Malaysian places all over the New Zealand but never 👎🏼 ever had such a frozen roti as a roti chanai. When raised the concern to staff, a lady at counter was so rude, disrespectful without any reason. I was just having a conversation politely about the roti chanai, I as its not up to the mark where she started the conversation saying she is a Malaysian hence why so she knows much better about Malaysian food than me 🤷🏻♂️… joke of the decade!! Sounds racist and impolite. After a long conversation she finally accepted that chanai served to me was not made fresh but was frozen roti from some supermarket, which is pathetic !! I would never recommend this place. Very pathetic behaviour by the staff. Instead I’ll recommend Uncel man’s Malaysian restaurant with great taste and a helpful staff!!

Very busy Malaysian cafe that is defenitely more popular than justifiable. The food was good but not enough for a spot on my personal favourite restaurants in Auckland. The lovely worker at the cashier was very friendly and happy to ask the staff to make my order even though they were just about to go on break. • Hainan Chicken Rice [4.5/5] chicken was perfectly delicate and very juicy, lovely crunchy layer of bean sprouts underneath and two questionably dry and discoloured slices of cucumber. Personally, I think the flavour of the orange sauce did not mix well with the chicken • Original Fish Collar Noodle Soup [3.5/5] the soup was amazing and fragrant but the protein size was very small, an excessive proportion of bones • Char Kueh Tiaw [3/5] I can easily think of many places with much better rice noodle dishes, the flavour was just very dull and lacking

Heard such great things about this place and was so excited so took my partner and we spent $75 on takeaway (pick up). The staff in the restaurant were very lovely, however the food was very disappointing. The chicken curry had three pieces of bone in chicken which were quite small and did not have much meat on them, then three pieces of potato with a half filled container of sauce for the curry. The beef rendang was a clump of shredded beef, not particularly tasty unfortunately. Also the coconut rice did not taste like coconut at all so I'm unsure as to why that was. Overall very disappointed in portion sizes and flavour was okay on some dishes but lacks freshness and finesse. Definitely not worth the money unfortunaley based on my experience.

The food was okay but it not worth the price, I paid $108 for 3 noodle dishes and 1 plate of round bean. I can't say the food is tasty nor not tasty. The portions for most of the food is not big except the Laksa and I recommended Paparich Laksa over this. Stir fried noodle is a small portion compare to it price ($24) definitely can get a bigger portion and tastier food from Thai restaurant, also round bean from other Chinese restaurant can be a bigger portion and tastier than the $38 round bean at Selera. The staff also used a spray bottle to clean the next table and sprayed us (while we were eating). So be careful while you dine in because it a small place and all table are close toghether!!!! Overall FIRST AND LAST VISIT!
