It may have been a one-time thing that it was not up to par, but sadly, we would not be returning due to today’s experience. We went to this place today as a party of 6 people. We ordered 2 Steak, 1 pizza, 1 spaghetti, 1 chicken burger and 1 beef burger.
The service was quite good. The waitress that was attending to our table was attentive and was always available when we required her. She always refilled our waters. The other surrounding waiters and waitresses were also very nice and answered some questions we had on the menu. It was not very busy when we came from what I saw, but I could be wrong as we did not inspect the whole restaurant.
We liked the vibe of the restaurant and we feel that the décor was lovely. The colours inside were definitely inviting which is one of the reasons why we wanted to come eat in this restaurant. We really appreciated the ambiance and visual experience.
FOOD: BAVETTE STEAK It looked trendy served on a chopping board with a little pouring jar for the jux. It was a small amount for $31.00 I would say. The steak looked too charred on the outside from first look. We both ordered medium rare for our steak. One of them was served medium rare, and the other one was more medium (but not close to medium done). The steak was still juicy. The green beans were still very crunchy and we feel was not blanched enough. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, firm enough to keep intact but soft enough to eat easily. The green beans tasted fresh but it did taste a little on the raw side. The potatoes needed more seasoning, but we thought it was considerate that they did not over-season food so that we can adjust it to our own tastes. I was not pleased at all with the flavour of the steak as it was bitter and tasteless. Although it looked nice when served, there was too much char on the outside of the steak for me to appreciate the beef’s supposedly rich, natural flavour. Even eaten together with the jux, it did not mask the bitter, unpleasant, burnt taste of the steak. I was personally looking forward to eating this as I was craving for steak, but I was left unsatisfied by that experience.
BEEF & BACON PIZZA It was a good amount and the pizza was surprisingly hefty. We believe it was worth the $26.00. It was nicely presented on a wooden board and looked absolutely appetizing. It was the best and only appealing dish out of everything we ordered. The bread was so soft and tasted wonderful. It was easy to eat as the crust wasn’t tough. The cheese was melting, the bacon was soft and went well with the pizza. Taste – The flavour of the pizza was superb. It was well seasoned and we have no complaints about this dish.
BEEF BURGER & CHICKEN BURGER We expected more from this dish for $23.50. The burger was served on a board with a very small side of chips. We still think the presentation was pretty. The bread was quite nice. Soft on the inside, crunchy on the outside. Some parts of the lettuce was not the leaf anymore (stalky and tough). There was either no sauce or not enough sauce as it was severely dry. There was no cheese/not enough cheese (we weren’t sure as we couldn’t taste it or find it). The beef patty was very dry and so was the chicken. The flavour was pretty average. The overall experience is that the burgers were dry. There was nothing that’s absolutely wrong with this burger, but we have had better for a more affordable price. The quality did not match the price point.
SPAGHETTI High expectations for Spaghetti worth $27.50. There was a good amount of spaghetti served for the price. Could have used more sauce. Wasn’t enough cheese on it but we were not sure if we could have asked for more cheese or if we were to wait for it to be offered (maybe we should have asked). The pasta was cooked nicely (al dente). It was tasteless. We added a lot of salt and tabasco to enhance the flavour profile and make it appealing. There wasn’t anything special with this dish and was a bit of a let down...
Read morePretty disappointing experience. Visited on a Friday night, right around 6pm, it was perhaps the busiest of all the rooftop eateries (good sign) but it wasn’t packed there were still tables available.
We seated ourselves and ordered through the QR codes, they were on both the menus and tables so we figured this was the preference, not to mention we had seen a member of staff on the floor at this point. Table of two we ordered a beer, a large wine, a pizza and a sandwich.
We waited quite a while before the first drink came out - yes, just the beer came. Had the second drink been a cocktail, we’d have understood the wait. After a further 10minutes a woman seemingly the manager came over with glasses of water (we’d been there pushing 30minutes at that point) and questioned was I waiting on a drink. She immediately followed up and was back with the wine within minutes of asking the question. She seemed good, friendly and clearly really onto it - but following that we didn’t see her again, perhaps it was the tail end of her shift, and she’d run the day?
We waited another while before the food came out, but I guess 50mins on a busy Friday - it’s fine. The food came out and the waitress grabbed cutlery from a box on another table - they’d not long left, it had just been cleared but not wiped - cutlery wasn’t checked but we did that ourselves, we never got a box though from what we could see they only housed menus silverware and a few napkins anyway, we weren’t missing out.The pizza was so-so, definitely not worth $30+ but the sandwich was delicious. The sandwich was huge but the fries came without any sauce so we asked for aioli as it was placed down, we were instructed $2.50 charge, and agreed. It wasn’t until I was halfway through the pizza and the sandwich almost empty that another waiter, and only the third person to tend to the tables outside in what was over an hour at this point, to serve another table, we politely asked for some aioli. Whether he forgot too or reminded the first she came out again and brought aioli - at this point we’re near finished, with two slices of pizza and half the portion, we thanked her. She returned again immediately eftpos machine in hand - she interrupted whilst we were eating to charge $2.50 for aioli and asked how was everything. I abruptly responded we’re still eating.. however my partner proceeded to grab her purse out of her bag, all the while mid-eating and paid as we weren’t going to make a fuss over $2.50. All the while she was smiling away making small talk completely unaware of how inappropriate it was.
Only four times in over an hour did we see a staff member come outside to serve (and we weren’t the only table out there, it was full as we weren’t leaving) and the the only time there wasn’t a wait was chasing up the payment…
This place has some really great promos each night of the week, but don’t be sucked in by it - unless you’re okay with long waits, subpar quality and terrible, impersonal service. Recently moved to the area, in pursuit of a new ‘local’ despite the daily deals, we...
Read moreThe initial atmosphere and vibe of the place is very cool. I love the decor and rooftop location. However the service was terrible, the staff were grumpy and barely even acknowledged us when taking our order.
For food we order the fried chicken and the garlic pizza. The chicken was delicious, probably the best I’ve had, however our pizza came and it was the wrong pizza. At first we didn’t realise it was the wrong pizza, therefore I took a bite, and then realised because the flavours were all wrong. I told one of the staff it was wrong and they said because I had taken one bite of it I would still have to pay for that pizza AND the pizza I originally ordered if I wanted to get that. So because they messed up our order, I had to pay for something I didn’t want just because I had taken a bite. I told them “how are we meant to know what the food is supposed to look like/if it is wrong until we taste it”, the staff member checked again and came back with the same answer saying we would still have to pay for it, even though it was their mistake. After I said I wasn’t going to pay for both, meaning I wasn’t going to get the original one I ordered, she then came back 2 minutes later saying everything was sorted and she wouldn’t charge us for the one we didn’t order. I am great full that it did get sorted, but I really had to fight for it and the commutation was terrible, hense the low review.
Not only was the food wrong, but when my drink came out I sipped it and noticed it tasted strongly of orange (i don’t like orange). I thought that I just hadn’t read the menu properly and missed that my drink had orange in it, so continued to drink it even though I didn’t really like it. However, once I got home I check the menu, and realised I had been given the completely wrong drink (a mimosa which is full of orange), and I hadn’t mis-read the menu at all, it was another mistake. (My fault for not trusting my gut that it was wrong, but they were empty, so two mistakes in one ordered shouldn’t of happened, and better communication when taking orders would’ve solved this problem) the staff were very unapproachable, which is why I hesitated to check in the first place, but should’ve trusted my gut that it was wrong and I would’ve had a much more enjoyable drink.
Overall, would not recommend as it is just not worth the price and I expected a much...
