Backyard Cafe — Restaurant in Wellington

I sent an email to the proprietor last Monday after 2 poor experiences at the café, Friday and Sunday of the week before. As of today, I have not received a response. I am deeply disappointed. Two of us ordered 2 coffees which came out promptly, and one Smashed Avocado dish and one bowl of chips. The Avocado came out without the egg. I went to counter and said it didn't have egg on it and was told "ït should have". I suggested an egg could come out with the chips we were still waiting on. The egg arrived. Forty minutes later we left. Still no chips! I was asked if I wanted a refund on the way out and said yes. They were prepared to refund the $6 chips which I refused and accepted the chips which had just been put up for service. Great amount of noise around who could do a refund in front of other customers, Wouldn't have been so bad if we hadn't had huge delay on the Friday because the Chicken Sandwich was a new menu item. I will most likely go back because the coffee is good. I hope the business owner takes note that something is very wrong at present with timing in...

I'm a regular here but I think that is going to stop....the food is good and well presented but the staff outside of the kitchen are totally useless and lazy...today I was there for over an hour and noticed many tables full of dirty dishes for over half an hour....there were plenty of staff to clear the dishes but they just muck around talking to each other and on top of that when they did clear the dishes not once did they spray or wipe any of the tables....we are still in Level 1 Covid and the staff clearly don't understand the importance of cleanliness and safety....2 staff members went out for a break and came back in and didn't wash their hands and carried on working. I intend laying a serious complaint with the local health and environmental people and don't recommend eating there due to unhealthy staff habits and...

Gets worse every time I go. Used to be good but today the fish and chips were 2 x Sealord Hoki Fillets and the chips were curly fries. Curly fries are NOT chips and many of the curly fries were hard and crunchy and small to very small pieces like it was the end of the bag. The chicken and bacon sandwich was like cutting through a dry lump of wood and the mango chutney or sauce which could have maybe saved it a little was a tiny teaspoon of stuff that wasn’t enough to salvage anything and again sad curly fries. An expensive lunch for the low quality food that was delivered to the table. It is my parent’s favourite cafe but today even dad was disappointed. I won’t be back unless I have to.
