You can not beat wellington on a good day. That saying also brings true for Plimmmerton Beach. The beach itself is massive and has plenty of spots for everyone, so it is hard to feel crowded. The sand is flat and warm, which makes it perfect for taking off your jandals or sandals. The water is always warm, which makes it a delight to slowly wade into after catching some runs on shore. Top all of that off with picturesque views over the harbour, and you have a perfect spot for a day of sun and sand. Highly recommend to anyone in the wellington area to check out this prime spot

Plimmerton beach is a good flat beach on the west coast of Wellington. It has safe surf levels and a very gradual change in depth, which is ideal for kids and less confident swimmers. Because it is more sheltered and shallower than other beaches around Wellington, it tends to be a bit warmer in the sea. Lots of good sand to play and build sand castles in. The kids and I had a fun few hours there and will be going back. Definitely worth going along on a nice sunny day.

Originally a small seaside resort, Plimmerton was named after the so-called "Father of Wellington", John Plimmer, also immortalised as a statute with his dog at the foot of 'Plimmer Steps' in the city. Now it's a sought-after suburb & one of our happy places for summertime visits thanks to some beautiful swimming holes & rockpools, friendly community, quirky seaside houses & marina lifestyle.
