Café El Porteño — Restaurant in Wellington

May 2023: Everything was as great as usual, with a little difference. The coffee was piping hot, my partner burned his mouth badly. Don't want to step in the guessing area but the barista didn't seem to care a lot when was told.

P.S. When it cooled down a little bit it turned out to be too sour. Piping hot, underextracted coffee is not the coffee we expected from El Porteño.

UPD July 2023: We finally got a chance to visit El Porteño again. Last time the burns lasted for almost a week so my partner was very cautious trying his coffee today. The coffee temp and taste were Ok, hence I am changing my rating from one star to three to reflect the owner's efforts to address the problem. I hope in a year I can confidently submit a 5-star review which this place deserves.

On reflection, it also might be that our well-insulated take-away cup with sipping cup was part of the problem. If you take it away check the temperature...

Walking down on a Saturday morning to have a coffee at cafe El Porteno is simply a great way to start the weekend and a ritual I hate to miss. It has a cool vibe, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the food fresh out of oven and particularly love the orange and chocolate muffins and cheese scones; also appreciate they offer a small muffin option for days when not so hungry or i take my young grandchildren down for a hot chocolate. Gorgeous location Ina picturesque and very aesthetic cafe. The food was nice and not too heavy, the affogatto was divine, with delicious coffee and rich creamy ice cream. I had the salmon and caper bagel, which while not a huge portion, is delicious with a fabulous rye bagel.
