Sprig + Fern Tavern Tawa — Restaurant in Wellington

Wasn't overly impressed with the first visit to this place. Initial service was friendly and felt cared for upon arrival, once seated we got our drinks and ordered food. An hour had passed and had not a single eye batted at us. Group of 6 elderly ladies came in and ordered and got their food within 30 minutes. Called someone over and asked what was going on - we were told the kitchen was 'under pressure' despite only having about 12 of us in their restaurant and had forgotten our order - would bring it out as soon as possible and yeah okay whatever - told us our 2 appetizers would be on the house including a drink we ordered - happy with outcome and waited another 20 minutes for the food to come out. Garlic bread was lukewarm and didn't give us the extra garlic butter we asked for and the baby brie honestly seemed like a gag menu item with how it came out. Pork was good but Chicken Parma was average. After about 2 hours in the restaurant I got up to pay and they decided to make us pay for the whole lot excluding one drink. Honestly felt like they pretended to not hear me when I spoke up about the cost and service and how we were told the appetizers would be on the house for making us wait so long.

Massive shame as me and the missus had been wondering about this place for a while.

$124 for disappointment and frustration.

A massive fa’afetai lava (thank you) to John and his amazing team Rory + Issac and kitchen staff for hosting us this past weekend for our brothers 30th birthday. From the initial booking enquiry, comms in between to the next level amazing service we received on the day, it has been an amazing experience with them from start to end.

We had a party of 40 guests that they hosted for a sit down dinner set plus starters and drinks and they did an amazing Job! Food came out on time with minimal issues and everyone was happy around the table with the delicious meals. I must also mention that our private function was held in their outside covered area and the inside of the restaurant was also fully packed so to give us their best service served with laughter and good vibes and to still cater to a full restaurant was amazing and so appreciated.

We have had regular group bookings at Sprig and Fern tawa but the first since John and Rachel have taken ownership and we are soo excited to host more special function and dinner parties with them. Thank you so much guys for your amazing customer service. It is truly hard to come by these days with large groups but we will be absolutely referring your team to all our family...

If you're looking at having just a quiet meal for two, a family meal with the kids or even hold a private function, this is your place!

I organised my mum's 80th here with close to 40 people and not one of us could fault the staff, service or food. Everything was absolutely top notch 10 out of 10!

From the moment I emailed them asking whether they could accommodate us for lunch at short notice, John made it so easy for me to organise. He answered all my millions of questions and the place was set up beautifully for mum's special lunch. The seating arrangements were perfect, the atmosphere was quiet and warm, the staff were incredibly professional, helpful & a lot of fun and the food absolutely delicious! They even provided a microphone for the speeches and made mum feel very special.

A huge shout out to John and our bar staff on the day - Rory, Breanna and the young fella (apologies I can't remember your name). Also Graham the chef.

We will definitely be back! I'm proud to call it...
