Ofadaboy is located in surulere. I've always searched for where I can have a good palmwine not the ones they carry about and eventually I found ofadaboy when I came across a friend Instagram post. I must say I went there and no regrets. I had palmwine and Asun ( the asun is #1,000) and when it was served I was like. ๐๐๐Is it for tasting or it's actually what I bought. ๐๐ quite small anyway, but not a problem my main reason of going there is to have a taste of palmwine and it worth it, very nice , makes you crave for more! Nice ambience ( of course I took pictures ) the waiter was nice and listened carefully. I loved the traditional feel it added to the beauty of my pictures. For me, I like staying outside (but late hours of the day, not when it's sunny โ๏ธ)though they have indoor seating . I did not have the ofada rice because I came intentionally for palmwine besides, ofada sauce is spicy ๐ and I requested for just fried yam and plantain and the waiter said I can't have just that so I gave up and humbled myself with my asun. I'll give 3 star because the waiter said I can't have just yam and plantain. ๐
*****'' * MY SECOND VISIT ๐๐๐
Hey guys!
I had a second visit to OFADABOY because I was informed they did their renovation and I expect to see new paintings and designs.
Guess what!!!
They did not disappoint. The paintings are beautiful and more colourful which is pleasing to the sight and of course, pictures!
I went with my bestie and we were looking for a space to sit because most were reserved, but we eventually saw a space outside and decided to sit on one of the four sitters. Besides, most of the setting outside is a four sitter. A lady in charge said we can't sit outside because it's a four sitter and we will need to go inside (which was quite cold for my bestie) or sit somewhere else she pointed.
Like seriously, we requested that she just let us sit. Besides we saw two people in the four sitters, but she was bent on her decision which I tried to understand.
We went in and the waiter brought the menu, we felt unhappy and told him we actually want to sit outside and we are not the only people who will occupy the four sitters- there were other people there.
The waiter finally considered us and asked us to come and sit wherever we want. We were excited by, his kind gesture. Few minutes later, the lady walked up to us and said her waiter informed her that she did not let us sit where we wanted. We told her, yes! Besides that's what happened. She said she was telling us it's a four sitter and we can't sit there because when other groups of four comes she will have to move us and we might even be eating. There are times, you twerk the rules for guests. Besides, we only pleaded to sit there; we understand your concern. Even throughout our stay, other four sitters were free it's not like we deprived anyone from sitting. The situation was really awkward but I only looked forward to having my favourite there and that's palmwine!!!!
I had assorted beef while my bestie had ofada rice which comes with the sauce and egg. It was quite good and well presented by the waiter. The waiter made up for the awkward situation upon arrival and he kept checking on us to ask if we needed anything or we are fine. That was kind of him.
The experience was lovely though; nice ambience, traditional feel, good for pictures.
I might have a third visit again. Until then, I will...
ย ย ย Read moreFirst and foremost the best way to locate this place is to go to their IG profile, click the map link on their bio and use it. If you leave your trip in the hands of Uber or Taxify, be thou not shocked when your trip fare is twice the estimate cause the spot is not easy to find and the map would mess you up.
The space: I like the traditional feel to this spot, the pretty wooden furniture and the traditional paintings, lovely! Thereโs this African feel to Ofadaboy and although Iโm not the most patriotic citizen (donโt blame me blame the naira), I do appreciate it. The ambience was ok, it looks like a spot that does get crowdy so Iโll suggest they find a way to manage this. The flies here ehn......they graduated from MIT, even tho all outdoor restaurants face this battle and I could have eaten indoors, I still canโt overlook the fact that I had to be fighting mortal kombat with some stubborn flies ๐
The food: Although they have quite an interesting menu (traditional meals), I just had to try their signature meal (Ofada rice). During my visit we had Seafood Ofada and Ofada Yo. @ofadaboy Iโll like to suggest having 3 levels to this pepper thing (I noticed they have regular and spicy) but OMO some of us canโt handle the regular pepper well even tho we love it. After one spoon, I ran after the waiter cause he was delaying on bringing water and my head was already ringing my pepper emergency ๐จ as a baby girl needed water. They were generous on the seafood portioning, it was served separately and had quite a couple of seafood like calamari, snail, freshly cooked croaker fish, crab and Prawn (ps: I no dey chop crab ๐ฆ ๐ ). For N5,500 I think it was a fair deal ๐. The Ofada yo tasted ok (same Ofada sauce) but was served with beef, moi moi, and an egg, it goes for N3k. Overall it gets an average score from me, it was fine but didnโt blow my mind.
The drinks: Now we are talking ๐ ๐, I drank palm wine guys. Please thatโs like the stamp of being Nigerian for me and if you havenโt had palm wine, please add ma to my name ๐๐ . On a serious note, it was lovely. I honestly canโt judge much cause Iโve only had palm wine twice in my whole life so Iโm no pro on this matter but I enjoyed it. They also have cocktails but I wanted palmy so no comments on that!
The service: @Ofadaboy service was good, I almost got irritated cause the waiters were too far off and I legit had to walk to them the first time but I told them how uncool it was that I have to leave my food to get a waiterโs attention and after that they always came around to ensure we were ok. They reacted professionally to my complaint.
My verdict: Cool traditional place to visit every now then, but is it worth the hype ๐? Not ๐ฏ. Iโd recommend you visit tho, itโs a lovely experience and who knows your pepper game might be doper than mine ๐ There are quite a couple of โroomsโ for improvement but honestly they are doing pretty well for a mainland restaurant-...
ย ย ย Read moreMy taste buds had become accustomed to the meals that were sold in my university's canteen and my appetite craved for something different. Luckily for me , I saw a picture someone on my contact list uploaded on her WhatsApp status where the food was looking sumptuous. So I made some enquiries from my friend and checked their website only to discover that the place where the picture of the meal was taken - Ofada boy - was closer to my school than I thought. As I had been less busy with school work I decided to give it a try asking another friend of mine to come along. Contrary to my expectations, it was about 15 minutes drive from my school (12 minutes in the public transport with 3 minutes of walking). Thankfully Lagos traffic went into hiding. From the exterior, all I saw was a wooden gate and this made me assume that it was a small place. I stepped into the compound where I was received warmly by a young-looking man who I thought was the famous "Ofada boy". Turns out I was right! He led me from the outdoor setting to the inner room and I was dazed. It was much bigger than I expected, made me feel like I was home and the atmosphere radiated an Afrocentric vibe (the Yoruba culture to be precise). The waiter dressed in a Yoruba attire approached me barely few seconds after I found a place to sit beaming with smiles to hand out the detailed menus. Since I had previously visited their website, I did not hesitate to make my order which was named "ofada classic" along with a bottle of water and palmwine. The presentation of the food was superb, the taste of the food was delicious and bearably spicy. The palmwine was served in the traditional manner - in a Calabash - and this got me excited because it was my first time . I finished my meal in no time with my taste buds enjoying every spoon of the rice. The waiter then came along to hand my bill to me which was a total of 2500 naira. Such goodness at this price, it was a good buy. Before I left, I decided to relax a bit so I played ludo with my friend and yes I won! The customer service, the environment and the promotion of our cultural heritage had me more than satisfied that night. After such pleasant experience, you can trust that I had a good sleep when I returned...
