Johnny Rockets is a fast food restaurant and burger shop best known for "the original hamburger". My sister and I had a burger craving and decided to stop by their American Diner style restaurant in Wuse 2.
The environment here is very clean and looks like a classic American Diner with its open kitchen, jukeboxes and decor. The ground floor wheelchair accessible while the first floor is not. The first floor doubles as its sports bar.
For food, we had the Double Smoke House BBQ Burger, Double Naija Style Burger, Bacon Cheesy Fries, Oreo Cookie Milkshake and Strawberry Oreo Crumble Milkshake. The Smoke House had a delicious and juicy patty with crisp bacon, onions, cheese and a smoky bbq sauce. It was nice to see inclusion of Nigerian flavours on their menu and the Naija burger delivered the rich flavours of suya. It had lettuce, tomato and white onions however we would have preferred red onions instead. Both burgers were good but we expected better because you can get good burgers anywhere but if you go to Johnny, you'd expect the best and not just good burgers. The Bacon Cheesy Fries was difficult to eat because of the way it was prepared. The hot fries were probably topped with cold cheese slices and then popped in the microwave. Because of this method, a sudden change in temperature such as the cool air in the restaurant caused the cheese to solidify and become clumpy. A cheese sauce or even better quality of cheese should be used (e.g. grated mozzarella) on the fries and then put into a hot oven will guarantee a perfect cheesy melt on the fries.
The Oreo milkshake was sweet and creamy but the true star was the Strawberry Oreo. The strawberry gave it an extra layer of flavor which was very delightful. The best part of milkshakes is that they are hand spun so you are guaranteed a smooth and silky texture. They both had a dollop of perfectly whipped cream.
The Double Smoke House Burger was âŠ6500, the Double Naija Style was âŠ5100, each Milkshake was âŠ3900 and the Bacon Cheesy...
Read moreFirst off, burgers are super pricey - and not worth it. The bun is good (missing sesame seeds but overall, okay), meat is not spicey (if that's what you'd prefer), it lacks lots of seasoning to power through the taste and sauces used were used super economically. Only veggie that tastes are the jalapenÔs and we certainly couldn't find the cheese in all of it. A lot more could have been done.
The space is just like some of its other locations outside the country but some of what give it the diner feel aren't available for you to play with (the music you select with quarter dollars, etc). Upstairs is a lounge so it fits for both worlds, if that's what you're looking for.

Read moreSecond time here @ Johnny Rockets and it still has the great burger feeling from three years ago. Sadly the burgers are still very pricey and could turn off a lot of people.
The 50s ambience is still there but I think they have more staff chatting away than customers. Maybe bring down the burger price? Lol.
The jukebox which we expected to operate from our table wasnât functioning and we only got music as we stepped out. Another turn off.
I believe the happening place in here is the lounge above. Next visit will definitely be up there coz the burger spot wasnât doing it for me at all.
Happy staff and the waitress who attended to us was very helpful with the menu and...
