Hygge Lillehammer — Restaurant in Lillehammer

The food didn't taste bad but it was over priced, the place looked big and nice at first, but quickly revealed that is way too big for the few people attending the tables.

We were a big table of about 8-9 people, some ordered drinks as they sat down, others arrived a little later and wanted to order, but when no waiter came to get order for 20 minutes we tried to go to the kassa but got sent back saying that someone would come to the table, so we waited 15 more minutes to be able to order. The food for half of the table arrived in about 20 minutes, while the other half never showed up for more than one hour, we asked the waiter coming back to pick up the plates of the first half and they assured us that the kitchen was working in it, but nothing showed up still after one hour and half, not even drinks. Third time we asked they went to actually check and realised they forgot to place the order, causing us to get our order almost two hours after ordering. They did offer us a half price discount for those orders, but this is not acceptable. Even worse, when paying they realised they messed up assigning orders to tables, and wanted us to pay for things from other tables that we never ordered and could not find the things we already paid for, keeping as at kasse for Very long as they figure it out, what a mess!

We don't even blame it on the waiters, who always looked stressed, honestly sorry and they are always running around, I think it's to blame the owners who should hire more people and organise their staff better.

After reading mixed reviews, ranging from excellent to terrible, I decided it was worthwhile to check out. The place has a lot going for it, particularly the good food. I ordered the river trout, which was cooked nearly to perfection. The interior is charming and warm, and the restaurant has a central location that's just slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of the main street. There's even a small outdoor seating area, though it's not particularly attractive.

However, every restaurant stands on two pillars: the food and the service. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing. The waitstaff seemed to be going through the motions half-heartedly, showing little enthusiasm when delivering the food. They weren't attentive either; 40 minutes after clearing my table, no one came by to offer dessert or anything else. (I eventually went to the counter, paid, and left.)

This is my number one place to eat in Lillehammer! Very cosy atmosphere with combination of simplicity and elegance. Very friendly personnel who obviously love their job:) Hearty dishes, varied food, bright menu and delicious beverages. Prawn and shrimp salad with garlic bread -- is my top choice.
