I recently visited Haneef Siri Paye on Temple Road in Lahore, hoping to enjoy a flavorful, authentic dish that’s a local favorite. Given the reputation of many Siri Paye places in Lahore, I had high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience here was disappointing. First off, the taste of the *paye* was really not up to the mark. The *shorba* (gravy) lacked the rich, deep flavor that typically makes a good bowl of *paye* memorable. It felt thin, almost watery, and seemed to be missing that signature spicy, aromatic kick that you’d expect from a well-prepared dish. It didn’t have the warmth or depth you get with a carefully spiced *paye* broth, leaving it tasting rather bland and unappealing. The *paye* themselves also left a lot to be desired. They didn’t have that tender, melt-in-the-mouth quality you expect, and the taste wasn’t quite there either. It’s clear they didn’t achieve the right balance of spices or cooking technique, and the overall experience just felt off. I was hoping for that slow-cooked, intense flavor that makes *paye* so delicious, but it simply wasn’t present. In an attempt to try something else, I also ordered *khud*, but unfortunately, it was equally disappointing. The flavor was bland, and it was honestly not enjoyable at all. It seemed as though the dish lacked attention to detail, and nothing about it stood out. It felt more like an afterthought than a dish that the restaurant takes pride in. On the plus side, the prices here are reasonable – they’re not too high, which makes it affordable for most. However, given the quality of the food, I didn’t feel like I got value for my money. Even at a low price, I expected better quality, especially since *paye* is such a beloved and iconic dish in Lahore. Overall, I would not recommend Haneef Siri Paye, especially if you’re looking for an authentic, flavorful experience. The taste just isn’t there, and with so many other options around the city, I won’t be returning. There’s definitely better *paye* to be found elsewhere in Lahore, and unfortunately, this place just didn’t live up to the hype.

So this place has been at its current location for many many decades, and if you're at a place for more than a decade you have see all kinds of tides. Verily, the taste has changed a little, but the generosity hasn't. As you get to the end of your bowl you can ask the waiters to get a refill, and you can have a refill as many times as you want no questions asked. I think that the people of Pakistan are MashaAllah tabarakAllah very generous in their dealings and are mostly fair in their ways. I'm thankful to my neighbour that takes the time out and takes me around town to different hole in the wall eateries to showcase a different side of Lahore! If it wasn't for him I probably would have missed out on some REALLY good stuff. May Allah give those that do good more than they imagined, and may He give it to each and every Pakistani that yearned for halal rizq with halal means. May Allah bestow His blessings on those Pakistanis that garnered wages through hard work, determination and dedication. May Allah guide the lost ones to the light and may He continue to guide Pakistan on the right path always! Ya Rub Ameen sum ameen
