Review of Red Apple – Matka Biryani (Tikka)
Visited Red Apple to try their much-recommended Matka Biryani, specifically the Tikka version. I was informed there would be a 15-minute wait, which was completely fine—I'm always happy to wait longer if it means the food will be freshly and properly prepared.
The second-floor seating area was just okay in terms of hygiene. While the space had a few flies, it wasn’t overwhelming. The tables, chairs, and floors appeared generally clean. The waiters were polite and attentive, which I appreciated. The kitchen also looked reasonably clean at a glance, which gave me some initial confidence.
However, the real disappointment came with the biryani itself. It arrived in a matka covered with cling film. Upon removing it, I placed my hand over the rice, expecting steam and heat—but was surprised to find it barely warm. I dug deeper with a spoon and confirmed it was, at best, lukewarm.
I immediately informed the waiter, who took it away to reheat. Out of curiosity, I observed the process and was quite dismayed to see it being microwaved—likely the same method it was initially "prepared" with. This was extremely disappointing. A dish like matka biryani should be heated thoroughly in a proper pot—ideally over coal or a gas stove—to allow the flavors to infuse and ensure the food is safe to consume.
Serving lukewarm rice is not just a letdown in terms of taste but also a serious food safety concern. Rice left sitting at unsafe temperatures is a leading cause of bacterial growth and food poisoning. It's basic food hygiene: rice must always be served piping hot.
After seeing the matka being microwaved, I told them I didn’t want it and chose to leave. I still left some money to cover part of the cost, as a matter of courtesy.
I strongly urge the management to review basic kitchen and food safety practices—there is a wealth of free guidance available online.
It’s a shame because Red Apple seems like a well-established and locally popular spot. However, the management clearly needs to modernize and tighten up operations—especially in the areas of food hygiene, service presentation, and overall cleanliness (particularly addressing the flies and general upkeep).
I hope this feedback is taken constructively. With so many new and competitive establishments opening up, maintaining high standards is essential not only for customer satisfaction but also for...
Read moreI visited Red Apple F-10 Markaz with my family, and honestly, it was a very disappointing experience. Here are the key issues we faced:
Unprofessional Service: The waiter was literally leaning on the table while taking our order, which felt very disrespectful and unhygienic.
Dirty Tables & Dining Hall: The tables were not clean at all. We had to ask multiple times before they were wiped properly. The dining hall itself was poorly maintained, with visible dirt and trash bins placed openly inside.
Poor Ambience: The air conditioning was barely working even in hot weather, and although fans were on, they weren’t helping much. The walls were stained and looked worse than a typical roadside dhaba.
Cheap Utensils: They served water in the cheapest disposable cups which kept falling off the table due to fan air — very annoying and unhygienic.
Dirty Glassware: The glasses provided for drinks (sheesha glasses or regular) were extremely dirty and unwashed.
Overall Hygiene: Overall cleanliness was severely lacking. From the floors to the walls, everything looked neglected.
For a place located in such a prime sector of Islamabad, this level of maintenance is shocking. Definitely not recommended for families looking for a decent...
Read moreLocated to the left of TRP Roll Paratha in F-10 Markaz. Red Apple is a food place which offers both traditional and fast food options from biriyani to roll parathas, burgers. They have a lot of space for sitting. The building has 2 floors and a rooftop and they also have space in the middle area of the markaz, which is really nice atmosphere wise. We ordered 2 deals, 1 single roll cheese paratha and one special roll paratha. The deal had 1 burger, 1 fries and a cheese roll paratha as well. The burger was ok, fries were soggy but the roll was really tasty. Overall red apple is a decent place, not amazing but decent place to have some quick bites. Their prices are also fairly light on the pocket....
