Suchiche Café & Bar — Restaurant in Tarapoto

This was long overdue. I’ll try to be as objective as possible even though, right now, I really feel like giving them a 1 star review bc of some things I’ll share on this review. Btw, this is coming from someone who used to come to this coffee shop everyday as I work remote. The positives: the staff is excellent, this probably one of the biggest reasons I still come here just to say hi to them. Food is great. Negatives: Number one, the biggest issue of this place. The WIFI, I understand we in the jungle but come on, poor to no wifi most of the time? This is the whole purpose of a coffee shop, a place to work while you enjoy something to eat. There are times I would already order lunch and I find their wifi is just lagging so bad. Number two, the AC. It’s still hot inside. It should be cool so you can work just fine. Instead, you find yourself sweating specially during the afternoon. Third: the prices, I once order a bowl of yogurt with granola and honey. I finished my honey and I asked for some more, then the waitress tells me she would need to check with the chef first. She comes back with the same amount of honey which was just not enough. I guess the chef was feeling generous. Ask for more and waitress tells me, sorry no more honey for you. At that moment I was already feeling a bit frustrated with the whole situation, so I tell her to bring me 30 soles worth of honey. To my surprise, she brings me the same amount. Man, at the point I really wanted to go to the bodega around the corner, buy my own honey and eat it with my yogurt. I couldn’t bc as I mentioned already, I work remote and I happened to be in a meeting. All in all, try this place. It is beautiful, I agree, but probably won’t notice these things if you here for a quick vacation. My perspective is more as a local. Almost forgot, the bathroom. It would be great if there is papertowel to dry your hands. You shouldnt be using these hand dryer. Once the surface is covered with dirt, grease, and even soap, bacteria and viruses thrive and that spreads to your hands. Even worst if you dont clean the filters. Gotta be using toilet paper to...

Too much effort put in appearances and very little effort in products and service. The yogurt in the breakfast options was runny and tasteless. If you're a local you know it's the cheapest kind there is. The fruit had a weird taste, like they'd been washed with detergent. We had to send the food back. Coffee's not great, especially the americano, cappuccino was tolerable. Poke bowl was ok, but had a pathetically small portion of paiche (fish) and the mushrooms were super salty. Not a single gluten free option in their baked goods, nothing vegan either I think overall, and the menu has no allergen information, all of which is frankly odd since they clearly attempt to meet international coffee shop standards. Great place! Excellent coffee, drinks, and food. Maybe I'd enjoy an even lighter roast, but I favor very light roasts. Try their Ananacoffee, a coffe drink with pineapple and cedron, blew my mind. They have a proper kitchen woth good chefs. Knowledgeable personnel, roasters and baristas alike. Definitely my favorite spot for both coffee and cocktails...
