Great food!

We tried: Rice Pilaf- the mango toppings brought back memories from my childhood when we would ate rice with mango as our viand.

Grilled tanigue in lemon butter sauce- This one came with rice. The texture of the fish was amazing! The sauce was quite under-seasoned though but still good nonetheless

Smoked Barracuda - This was the bomb! It was the best fish meal I've ever had in my life! I'd recommend this to anyone who'd consider eating at P+B. Although quite salty, the sauce complemented the fish meat well. The fish had a distinct crunchy exterior and creamy interior! If I were to nitpick though, I would say that the slice of barracuda we had didn't have enough smokiness to it.

Balboa Steak (whole) - The portion size left us wanting but the taste surely made up for it.

Pesto-crusted chicken skewers - The chicken was soft and almost melted in my mouth. The pesto sauce was good! This would have benefited from a tad more seasoning.

Creamy vegetable soup - Indeed, it was creamy and delicious. Personally, I thought there was too much acidity but my companions thought it made the dish all the more exciting.

Beef stroganoff pasta - It's just stroganoff and pasta. This one was not bad. However, it just did not wow me as much as the others did.

...

Overall, we had a very pleasant experience here. I'd definitely come back here for the smoked barracuda.

Pros: Good food, clean comfort room, good service, smoked barracuda Cons: wobbly table, small balboa steak...

Pepes + Balboa – Where Comfort Food Meets Urban Cool Tucked inside Mayfair Plaza along Lacson Street, Pepes + Balboa is a stylish hybrid of comfort food and casual sophistication. Whether you’re in the mood for Filipino classics, smoky meats, or a slice of pizza with personality, this spot delivers a menu that’s both familiar and inventive.

The vibe? Think industrial chic meets laid-back dining. Exposed brick, warm lighting, and cozy booths make it perfect for everything from solo lunches to barkada dinners. The menu is a flavorful mash-up: their beef salpicao, smoked salmon, and pork ribs are consistently praised for bold seasoning and generous portions. If you’re craving something cheesy, their pizza and cheese sticks hit the spot without trying too hard.

Service is generally friendly, though some guests note it can be hit-or-miss during peak hours. Prices are mid-range and fair for the quality, making it accessible without feeling cheap. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over drinks or dive straight into a hearty meal—no judgment either way.

Pepes + Balboa may not be the flashiest restaurant in Bacolod, but it’s got soul, flavor, and just enough edge to keep you coming back. For food that’s comforting with a twist, it’s a solid pick in the city’s ever-evolving...

Good food but...

Heads up to people who wants good service. This is not the place for you.

Here's some of the reasons why: -Waiter very unattentive and makes mistakes on orders even with just quantities. (I came with someone and ordered two of their Angus Steak, one order came and it eneded up being the only order the kitchen received, common sense is lacking in this scenario.) -Waiters talk with each other loudly that you surely will get distracted. -THE WAITER who served the first order spilled the steak gravy on me because she just put to much twist and torque to her turn. Gravy was good tho.

Overall, service not good at all. Not even one apology for not getting the order right.

I recommend their food, but I'd rather suggest you take it home...

The place was very pleasant, not noisy and visually appealing. I can only recommend their beef salpicao with mashed potatoes on the side, so so good. The meat is very tender and the seasoning is perfect. Mashed potatoes were okay too. Definitely will not recommend their ceasar salad, theirs tastes nothing like the usual ceasar salad kasi parang garlic sauce ang dressing.

The steak is perfect! I asked for medium doneness and they delivered. I think it's the best steak I've ever eaten. Serving size as you can see in the pic is quite small, but I guess it's because I ordered the half serving one. Ice cream is about as good as any ice cream. Nothing exceptional. The place is well designed for you to enjoy every bite of your meal.

Tried the anchovy overload pizza. I was surprised because not a lot of people love anchovies. Well I happen to love them. So I guess my review is biased 😅 Nice price points. Value for money. Am excited to try the other dishes during a next visit. And no, I don't own this place. My last name being part of this is purely coincidental 😜
