Deco's Original La Paz Batchoy — Restaurant in Iloilo City

Turista here 🇵🇭🍲 We came to try it since it's one of the specialties of the region. The soup itself was quite neutral—not bad, not amazing—just simple and traditional.

The place was clean, service was fast, and the food arrived hot, which we appreciated. As usual with many traditional dishes here, it could benefit from a bit more protein to feel more complete.

From what we observed, it’s a kind of flavorful fast meal—locals came in, ate quickly, and moved on. It seems to serve its purpose well: a quick, warm bite with cultural roots.

If Pampanga has Aling Lusing with her sisig invention, Iloilo has Deco with his batchoy creation.

Have tried their batchoy at their La Paz branch. On its own, the broth has light texture and has flavor despite the simple ingredients and toppings and compared to Netongs (which is just beside it and definitely has more sahog esp. chicharon bits). No wonder Erwan's Featr team chose Deco as their winner. However, my ranking would be: Ted's, Alicia's, Deco's, Netongs. And this is in terms of the flavor and greasiness...

La Paz Batchoy is similar to the "Mami" in Manila. Strong garlicky taste with pork liver, meat, and chicharon as toppings. Noodles are firm. They sell puto, and it's best partnered with the La Paz Batchoy, you dip it in the broth and the puto absorbs it, the sweetness of the puto and the saltiness of the soup compliments each other. Service was pretty slow, and the interior was not meant for bigger groups — we arranged the chairs to cater to our big group.
