Back again in Iloilo and when I’m in Iloilo La Paz Market is my go to place for that authentic la paz batchoy. This is the home to the original La Paz Batchoy that we now are familiar in Manila as the packed instant noodles or Ted’s Batchoy. But my go to place in here among the big three Ted’s, Deco’s and Netong’s Batchoy if Netong’s. Both Ted’s and Deco’s have already venture opening branches in Manila but Netong’s remain only to be seen in Iloilo. Netong’s Batchoy is located inside the La Paz market. Hidden inside this maze like market I need to ask people where to find it. Eventhough this is already my second time here I still get easily lost inside this kind of market haha. Finally after some circle around the market finally found it.
I got the Mega Bowl for 120PHP. Price haave already increased but still not bad for 120PHP for a big bowl of batchoy. Packed with pork liver, kidney, brain and other laman loob. The soup was crystal clear delicious. Perfectly paired with their puto. This is always worth the visit. Love every slurp of the soup. This is the noodle soup that I think Pinoy can proudly compare to the Japanese ramen.
Overall I always love every visit I have here and every peso is worth it. Just beware Netong’s is airconditioned inside with a bit of electric fan but because of the summer heat prepare to sweat it out while munching your La...
Read moreIf I can give it 0 stars I would! Unsanitary! They should not be allowed to operate. We decided to try the original La Paz batchoy and Netong's is in every food blog and has good reviews in Google. But please do not go to this branch at La Paz Public Market. I believe they have several branches across the city.
As soon as we got in, it smelled like pee or something. The server was rude and made us feel that she doesn't like us coming in and she hates her job. We got the super batchoy (that's their equivalent to regular). At 6pm, they're sold out of pandesal and puto. Service was fast and when we got our batchoy, it did not taste special. While eating, we saw a cocroach by the window. Another customer in another table screamed upon seeing cockroach on their table. We did not finish out batchoy and decided to leave. While paying at the counter, a cockroach crawled on top of the computer screen and the woman there just didn't care. At the kitchen, the staff preparing the batchoy was scooping ingredients using his bare hands and cockroaches were crawling at the service counter too. I'm not picky but this is just...
Read moreSearching for a good place to eat La Paz Batchoy, Netong's appeared on top for Google results. Went here to kickstart my so-called gastronomic adventure yet my taste buds were not satisfied. I ordered the All-beef (I like beef better than pork so don't judge me folks), puto and rice. The puto tasted dry. I asked for another serving of soup before I get to taste the All-beef, turned out my order was quite salty. However when I get to taste the additional soup it was actually better and lighter in sodium (I'm thinking maybe, just maybe, that this is the base for the pork La Paz batchoy). So I ended up transferring my noodles and rice on that other bowl of soup. (Left bowl-addtl soup, right bowl is the all-beef) Maybe I have to try the original La paz batchoy next time to give it another chance.
P.S not related but after all this All-beef talk I'm reminded of All for One from My Hero Academia 😁
Update: after talking about my Netong's experience, some friends said that that saltiness was normal for this restaurant, they recommended Popoy's and Alicia's but oh well I didn't get to try these...
