Pan de Cielo - Bikolano Comfort Food post ECQ review.
My girlfriend and I visited this establishment last week for lunch.
The restaurant is located in a corner lot along J. Molina Avenue, Marikina. The place has a decent parking space but it also requires decent driving skills to be able to maneuver out of said parking space.
The place has an industrial interior with a splatter of plants to liven up the interior.
It's seating capacity in the ground floor was a bit tight and intimate. It would be hard to fit numerous groups of 4 in the dining area. (I wasn't able to check out the space in the 2nd floor so the place might be able to accommodate more people)
As quaint as the entire aesthetic was aiming to be, the constant noise from the surrounding junk shops and passing cars proved the opposite.
We ordered the following;
Pork Sisig Special - Decent. You know it didn't come from a can. The only differences between the special and the regular one are the egg and Japanese mayonnaise - which didn't really elevate the dish in terms of flavor. (the first girl that we asked lacked product knowledge on the said dish which was disappointing.)
The sisig lacked texture as well. There was no sight of chicharon bits on top. To compensate, the sizzling plate was bombared with loads of sliced green chilis.
Chicken N' Mushroom - The sauce was delicious. I like how they spared no expense when it comes to garnishing the dish with lots and lots of sliced white onions. The only problem for me though was that the chicken meat was overcooked. It was dry, stringy, and tough.
Vegan Lain - A great complimentary dish to the ones we ordered. It was not soupy, and the flavor profile is there. Nothing much to give feedback on.
Garlic rice - To be honest, I've tasted better. It lacked the crunchiness and distinct garlic flavor from roasted garlic.
Salted Caramel Ice Cream - It was my first time trying the brand Big Scoop. And I have to say that I am an instant fan. Great balance of saltiness and creaminess from the ice cream. The texture is not too soft and not too hard. I'll definitely never buy other brands because of this experience.
Oh. There was free soup as well.
All in all, you get decent home cooked meals for student-friendly prices. I would definitely recommend trying this out if you're in the area.
Kudos to the kind...
Read moreThe atmosphere at Pandecielo was one of a kind. It would be the restaurant to go to when you have a good day, and even at the ones that are not so much. The prices of the food are justifiable for how tasty they are.
I went with my girlfriend and we both ate the T-Bone steak, the thin option (there are two options, thin and thick cut), and it set us back at about P578 (P239 each.) The taste of the beef was so good considering the seasonings that were used was only salt and pepper. It was so succulent and tender. The sides that came with it was plain rice and mixed veggies (there are three options for sides; coleslaw, mixed veggies, and a very interesting one, laing.) Along with the sides, there was a very rich and umami gravy that paired really well with the steaks.
There are many other dishes and cuisines in the resto from ulams, pastas, soups, desserts, italian cuisine and more. We tried the T-Bone steak as it was the most interesting to us. We will be...
