This place has a prime location at the end of Sabang promenade and is a dreamy spot to enjoy the sea views with a drink but sadly it needs to work on the food and service offering and we'd recommend enjoying a meal elswhere.
Staff members barely smiled, and at one point, one of them served our drinks whilst talking on their phone! We then ordered a wide selection for lunch from the Japanese menu, most of which was very disappointing and so over-priced for the quality received. Overall, in fact, it was the most expensive and bad value meal we had across a 3 week trip to the Philippines.
In particular, we note how badly handled a complaint we made was. Our daughter is vegetarian, and we chose this place as they had tofu and tempura veg on the menu. The tempura was oily and unpleasant, and the tofu arrived with a meat sauce on top! We sent it back, and they initially blamed us for not reading the menu properly. We then checked the menu, and it definitely didn't mention that it came with meat, just a savoury sauce. They then again said it was our fault for not saying that we didn't want meat with it, but we of-course didn't know it would come with meat as the menu didn't explain this. At a venue in a resort town with a constant stream of international visitors, we would expect there to be at least one meat-free dish, and given it just said tofu, this is what we expected. We eventually paid the extortionate bill but they refused to take the tofu off the amount, stating again that 'although the customer is always right it was your fault for not saying you didn’t want meat on the dish' and this was after the staff called their manager. We were offered a 30% discount on the tofu as a gesture, which was just insulting.
Don't waste your money here!! Go to Tamarind further along the beach where you'll find the food and service...
Read moreWe absolutely love this place, the ambiance, the food, the music. It’s our go-to spot to relax after a massage or enjoy sashimi nights. They serve fresh beer and, without question, the best sashimi in town. However, during our recent visit, I experienced something that made me feel quite uncomfortable. Our second order of sashimi came out with only half the portion of the first.. surprising, since this has never happened before. But what truly disrupted the experience was the behavior of a new waitress. Throughout our meal, I noticed she was intently watching me.. not just casually glancing at tables, but actually staring. None of the other guests seemed to get that same attention. It felt invasive and awkward, as though I couldn’t eat in peace. To make it worse, in the middle of our meal and while we were having an important conversation, she suddenly reached across the table and removed items without asking. No excuse me, no ‘may I,’ nothing. Just hands on our plates mid-discussion. It came off as intrusive and disrespectful. Good service is attentive but respectful of space and timing. We still genuinely enjoy this place and the quality they offer, and we hope this was just a one-time issue that can be addressed with a bit of staff guidance. The charm of this place deserves to be matched with equally...
