tldr: cozy Korean restaurant with nice interior, accomodating staff and 10/10 authentic dishes. My personal recommendation is the gimbab (김밥). You will have to look for gimbab (김밥) like this for quite a while outside of Korea.
Atmosphere (5/5) Gung has a very typicial Korean interior which is a perfect setup for a great Korean culinary experience. The entire dining room is very clean, especially if you consider that there are many BBQ dishes that are being grilled at the table. The floor, chairs, tables, cutlery and table vents are spotless. The presentation of the dishes is well thought through: no unneccessary garnish but still a very good combination of ingredients for a colorful display. There is a small playground area for children and occasionally the owners children will appear in the dining room but they are so adorable and well behaved that they even add to the atmosphere.
Hospitality (4/5) The staff is very attentive by accomodating patrons extra whishes. In terms of general attention Gung has the advantage of many Korean restaurants: the table bell. There is a button on every table that patrons can press to get the attention of the staff. Once a patron presses a button the staff is at the table within a few seconds. This allows for a very private dining experience but still provides quick service basically at your finger tips. Prices are well worth the quality of the food. Also a very nice touch in our case was that the owner came out to greet us as we were leaving. The only negative was that padbingsu was not available today (in winter). I do understand that it is difficult to have it available throughout the year but I had to find something negative to not completely sound like a paid ad.
Food (10/10) The food is as Korean as it gets. The menu is very typical with a few dishes that you would not neccessarily find at other Korean restaurants. What makes Gung so special is the eye for detail when it comes to composition of ingredients. Something as simple as an omlet becomes an epiphany at Gung. Banchan (반찬, side dishes) are fresh, well seasoned and beautiful to look at. Bibimbab (비빔밥) was amazingly put together, the vegetables were fresh and each one's natural flavour really came out nice in a great composition. the naengmyeon (물 냉면) broth was on point, rich in flavour but still very delicate. Extra special mention has to be made of the gimbab (김밥). Gung has multiple variations of gimbab that are all standing out with a prefect ratio of ingredients to each other. By the way: the size of a gimbab serving is perfect for a quick...
Read moreThe food is really good. We love numbers 43 and 49. However the staff don’t speak either good polish or English which makes it REALLY hard to communicate. They’re nice and they’re trying but it’s impossible to have a conversation.
Also it would be great if the restaurant would be available on bolt food or Uber because now it’s very hard to order delivery and it takes VERY long (2 hours).
The restaurant vibe it’s not nice, especially taking into conservation that the prices are high so you would expect a nice interior, but this is not the case (that’s why we always order instead).
To sum up, this restaurant has a lot of potential as the food is great but the service needs to be improved. The interior should be nicer or the prices should be lower - you’re either fancy restaurant with high prices or mediocre interior but lower prices - the current combo doesnt...
