Bronze Seafood & Lounge Bar — Restaurant in Ílhavo

After a delightful tour de force on the Praia da Costa Nova (magnifique, a place you should visit), I had lunch there with two friends of mine.

It was quite a windy day, and since there was no room indoors, we “decided” to dine en plein air. The staff kindly offered us some blankets to repair from the wind and, of course, we gratefully accepted - ça va sans dire, the blankets never made their grand appearance.

Blankets aside, we had a very cool lunch: we began with bread and butter as an entrée, followed by a tuna steak with sweet potato purée – simply divine, très très bon. We paired it with a bottle of Ghalarda Tinto-Blanco, a fabulous combination. The bacalhau was also good but not excellent as the tuna stake, though our idea of pairing it with garlic-heavy potatoes (as is typical in Portugal) wasn’t a very bright one – a little too much ail for my personal taste.

We have accidentally found the restaurant during our stroll on the beach after the sunset. The restaurant had good opinions so we thought why not trying the food and drinks. We were very satisfied with all! If someone is nearby this is must visit place! The food, drinks and staff was extraordinary. We have eaten tuna steak with sweet potato (amazing combination), octopus and sangria. Firstly tuna… it was so delicious, flavoured, crispy due to seeds on the top of fish. Greatly paired with sweet potato with garlic, if someone eats fish this is mandatory dish in Costa Nova! Sangria was served not half of the glass but as a full glass with fruits what is greatly appreciated. Octopus was also well prepared, not “gummy”, it was good combination with grilled potatoes and spinach. We visited this restaurant after reading all the great reviews.

Sadly our experience was very different. The fish was good, but a bit undercooked. The chicken was tasteless and really dry and we did not finish it. My burgerbun was really dry and it was a bbq burger but not tasty at all. I ordered without onions, and it arrived with onions.

The dessert was ok'ish, but nothing to get excited about.

We had 2 x different waiters. The one was very friendly and helpful. The other one did not speak clearly and also appeared quite unfriendly.

So out of 4 x main meals we had 3 x 2 ratings, and 1 x 3.5 rating.

Perhaps we just visited on an 'off day', but sadly our experience was nothing like the other reviews we read online.

For a lunch right on the beach I'd say it's a great option. For a decent dinner at average €25 per person I'd say not a good choice.
