The new Royal is at the end of the harbour area of Sao Martinho. I had walked past before and thought thst they didn't look busy so had doubts about what to expect. However, I am vegetarian and wanted an Indian meal. I was not disappointed. We ordered three of the starters and were surprised at the quality of food on offer. Veg samosas were nice but the veg pakora and onion bhajis were delicious and could be spiced up if required. We chose medium. Naan was served cut up and in a basket for each of us and we shared a very tasty Mukhani dhal with rice. We were conscious of not over ordering as can happen but with wine and water this all seemed the perfect amount. Other customers nearby seemed to be regulars. I am surprised that with the quality of food this place is not busier. Takeaway orders were evident so I can only suggest that the Portuguese like to eat their indian meals eith family at home. As a tourist it allows for a lovely view of the bay while eating great food with attentive but fussy service. Our waiter was e ellent. Would highly reccommend. Not just on our last night. Should have gone with my gut and eaten here earlier. On our next visit I won't make the...
Read moreAs part of a 'and now for something completely different' experience (Indian dining in Portugal), we decided to try this Indian restaurant, encouraged by the good reviews on Google. One thing we noticed is that, just like at other restaurants we've visited so far, we were surrounded by fellow Dutch diners. Maybe it's something to do with the Google algorithm? Anyway, the food was excellent – delicious, pure, flavorful, and authentically Indian. There is a very extensive menu. You can choose from all kinds of starters, mains and desserts and for the mains you can choose from chicken, lamb, prawn, fish and vegetarian. What my dish was called exactly I don't remember but it was something with dry chilli chicken. I asked for it nice and spicy, and they definitely delivered! The service is exceptionally friendly. We sat outside, which was really pleasant. All in all, a big recommendation; we truly enjoyed ourselves. This restaurant lives up...
Read moreWorthy of a visit. A gem. If you enjoy a good curry (gravy) travel here. We sat in the enclosed veranda overlooking the cove. Plenty of seats back from the window in the shade. Waiters speak English. We ordered poppadoms and a jug of sangria before checking the comprehensive menu. No lime pickle with the poppadoms. Dips tasty but not hot tasting. Starters we had pakoras and onion bhajis, flavoursome. Main course. We had a paneer curry and a prawn biryani with extra spice and naans. Quality and quantity excellent so much we will have a meal at home tomorrow. Food packaged in a takeaway box. Definitely recommend a walk...
