Cervejaria Mar — Restaurant in Aljezur

I first came here in June 2024 with a friend after being recommended by the receptionist at our hotel. Seafood stew “cataplana de mar” completely blew my mind!! Being Japanese, I don’t easily get impressed with seafood dishes but oh my! This place completely blew my mind!!! This time in October 2024, I was finally able to bring my wife and 3 year old daughter to this restaurant. Since I already shared with them how amazing food here was before coming to this restaurant, their expectation was quite high. However, they were also blown away and the food exceeded far beyond their expectation. They truly enjoyed everything we had, including appetizers. Staff was very friendly and very welcoming (including to kids). Atmosphere was amazing.

Our meal this time as 3 person share: dressed Crab with Rustic Toast Perceves (warm) Seafood Cataplana that had the most incredible range and quality of fish and shellfish experienced to date chocolate mousse (superb)

Our choice of wine was the white Vincenito which was a blend of Sauvignon Blamc, Semillon, Alvaninho grapes - excellent.

Their current hours on Google say they are open till 11:30pm. I got there an hour before, at 10:30pm. I was stared at by the staff and felt extremely unwelcomed. I walked in politely to sit down, the waiter runs to me with a loud voice asking me to go back and wait at the door.

I went and stood at the door not knowing what was going on. He came back saying I can only order fast food now because the kitchen has closed.

I informed him that I came an hour before the restaurant closes, he says yeah still it’s not possible to order now. It’s not my mistake going by the official hours mentioned here.

I’ve never felt unwelcomed as I did today. Their food looks good but what I had been through tonight was a horrible unforgettable experience in my first night at Aljezur.
