Enigma - Hamburgueria Artesanal - Batalha — Restaurant in Batalha

Rui Alves is a true gentleman. We passed by Enigma looking for another establishment. Even though we weren’t looking for Enigma, he took the time to help. Turns out the place we were looking for was closed.

He then kindly found us a table at Enigma. But after we sat, we realized it was a Hamburgueria. Being on vacation in Portugal, we were looking for more typical Portuguese food. Moreover, being from the US, we’ve had our fill of burgers. :) Rui took no offense to us wanting to leave and even helped us find what we were looking for.

Turns out they were closed too (this was All Saints Day). So we came back to Enigma and Rui graciously sat us and we were well served and ate well. We had the Miss Piggy (bifana) and Rui got a small salad for my wife, who wanted something small. The Miss Piggy was very good and so was the salad. The chocolate mousse for dessert was excellent. This was an amazing experience from the moment we walked in the door. The menu (which is incredibly varied!) was described to us in detail by a very caring employee, and when the food arrived... What a burger! Highly recommended if you're into artisanal burger joints! The atmosphere was great and we sat at a table with a beautiful view of the Monastery, lit up in the night. Knowing there's other locations in Tomar and Fátima makes those trips easier to plan... We already know where we're going for lunch! (Check out the chicken wings...

Went for Saturday lunch for two. would definitely crave this place and return regularly if I was a local.

Pros: Friendly server who spoke Portuguese, Spanish and English. Tastiest: Wedge potato fries and sauce Great: cheese that came with the Doritos-like nachos, enigma burger and the burger right below the Enigma (starts with an A) Lots of natural light Close proximity to Monastery
