Restaurante Forno do Avô — Restaurant in Bombarral

Stumbled on this place during our visit to Bomarral while headed to visit a petting zoo. We were looking for a late lunch spot and this place looked good, had space and also had decent reviews. We were impressed. The food was great and there was a lot of selection with the lunch specials. The price was also very good and the portion sizes were quite large.

They bring over a large tray filled with appetizers for you to choose from while you wait for your meal, the only catch is you dont know what they cost... but overall the prices are very reasonable.

I had the feta with tomatoes for an app (they called it a feta salad but it was just cubed feta with 3 halved cherry tomatoes). We had a galf order of bacalhau com natas (cod and potatoes in a cream sauce - €8) and 2 orders of the bifes grelhados com molho de cerveja com batata e arroz (grilled beef with a beer sauce with rice and fries - €10 ea.) for our main. I had 1L of white sangria for €5 and we also had 2 sumol cans at €2 each.

We didn’t have space for dessert but they did have lots of options including some gluten free ones.

After visiting the Budha park, we were looking for a place close by to have lunch. This restaurant came up on the search and we decided (based on the reviews) to give it a try.

Since we walked in the we felted we did the right choice. Everyone was so happy and friendly, from staff to even the clients. As we sit down, the staff started coming to help us and served us, and the service was very fast. Got some colouring pages for the girls to paint and that made the time fly by so fast for them. The food was outstanding, the soup (fish soup) was probably the best I have ever had, it was so good. The main dish was served in a big and full plate. We had hard time finishing everything, and the owner came by asking us if we wanna more😲

The desserts was so fresh and delicious, and they even gave us a "Ginja" to top up the amazing experience.

I booked a table at short notice and we were a large group and they still agreed to welcome us. When we arrived the restaurant was full but we were quickly seated. The staff are fast, efficient and very friendly. The food is magnificent. From the starters to the desserts, they were delicious. One of the most positive points was the attitude of the person in charge when there was a problem with one of the steaks. It was quickly resolved.
