There are quite a few positive points about this place: spacious parking beautiful view child seat and baby room friendly staff Here however you will find out what is the soundtrack to bad food: orchestral versions of Beatles songs.. Ordered a soup for the small one. What we got was an extremely salty vegetable soup that the kid rightly refused to eat. The Cook's favorite song must be ACDC's "cover you in oil". I got a rather small slice of cod literally swimming in oil with some onions around it. The fish was not a filet: it was full of bones. That's the cod house style and you best avoid it. My companion got the scabbard fish with banana. It was mediocre and later on it made her run to the toilet. Some other people got to see the fish of the day but not us while we had explicitly asked for the dish of the day. Maybe if you have a simple grilled fish or the espetada meat this place is acceptable but it's really not hard to find better places...
Read moreWith my partner coming from Madeira and with us visiting family often on the island, we love to explore and eat at new places. Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to expectations. The chicken breasts dish was clearly not a breast fillet, a few bones present along with it being over cooked left for a somewhat dry and rubbery dish. The pepper corn sauce was not very good, real lack of pepper and taste, it was more akin to a warm mayonnaise. Service was odd, waitress took food order and started drinks before going off and not coming back, after a wait of 15 minutes and trying to catch any waiters attention, we managed to get our drinks sorted. All in all this was most unfortunately our worst dining experience on the island, having eaten at more places than I can remember, we certainly will remember this place for all the wrong reasons and would...
Read moreWe just returned from dinner at Convento. The food was very good EXCEPT for one dish...Espetada. 3 of the 6 pieces were not edible. I could not even cut them with a knife and could not chew them because of fat and tendons. I very quietly immediately brought it to the attention of the server and she told the owner. When the owner came to the table he basically told me that he buys good meat, took my plate and walked away with half of my order. No apology, in fact made me feel as if I was at fault for ordering medium rare. We were charged FULL price and nothing more was said, not sorry, NOTHING. The owner was arrogant and rude. We have come to Madeira for 7 years in a row and have always eaten here at least twice a year. We will...
