I was here in the summer with some friends who wanted some conquilhas... first, obviously there's no Eduardo and then there are no conquilhas. But the biggest problem I had was with the 'know-it-all' waiter... who is an older man, very stressed but insisting we were the stressed ones... later I realised he tells the same joke at every table.... generating anxiety to everyone who's ordering food. The situation was as follows:we went there after a nice beach day and we sat inside because unfortunately all the outdoor tables were taken so we started ordering our food and drinks. Because I don't eat meat or fish I immediately got put on the spot by this 'oh so funny man'. After we ordered I proceeded to watch my friends eat the first serving of sea food while we waited patiently for the main course... I had ordered one of the two vegetarian alternatives on the menu which was something like veggie patty and vegetables. At this point I've asked the waiter if he could make sure my plate arrived at the same time as my friends so that wouldn't have to wait even longer, as it's costume with these types of restaurants, in my experience (vegetables and frozen food are always taking longer for an inexplicable reason). He assured me that of course he had taken it into account that everything would arrive at the same time. - obviously - everyone's food arrived and suddenly the man comes back and says.. 'oh I have some bad news, we don't have any more vegetarian patties but we do have the rest of the dish' - it was early dinner time, the outside was full but there was no one sitting inside -there where never any patties... So I asked him : ' ok, then I guess I'll have the rest of the dish, what is it?' he says it's vegetables'... this must be one of his jokes ... I ask ' yes, but what vegetables, what can I actually have for dinner?. he goes on to say that it's boiled cabbage and carrots. WHAT CHANCE DO I HAVE AT THIS POINT? HONESTLY . So I said 'ok then that's it' . He would occasionally come back and ask if we needed anything and if my lettuce was good ... how funny . . . Far before this point all my friends and I were very uncomfortable with the situation and non of us could enjoy whatever thing we were eating. for them this restaurant is a sellout and for me it's just a disaster. When I'm done eating he asks again and I try to meet his humour and ask "you're not going to make me pay for this, are you?. it came late, it's not what I got told I would get and it's not even good" to which he responded "it's food, and you ate it right? then you have to pay it, what are you thinking?!". that's it I won't go any further. I think it's all you need to know about the event. Don't go there. I was also treated as a child. we are...
Read moreI absolutely LOVED this old school marisqueria. It is not fancy, which is exactly my vibe when I plan to be elbows deep in cracking crab and peeling shrimp. Their waitstaff speak limited English because for the most part, this is where the locals go for delicious fresh seafood so they don't need to accommodate a whole lot of tourists. It is just off the Parede train station and you can see the sign and the shop from the train. The set meals on the menu are perfect for the amount of food/per person and provides variety to the best seafood they serve. We were two adults and got the two-person set, and added clams bulhao to our order. The edible crab shell was insanely delicious - they mix the crab roe with mayo(??) to make a bowl of crab goodness that you can dunk your crabmeat into. Our set came with two types of shrimp , one was smaller and sweeter and the other larger and more red. The former lasted like clean ocean and the latter tasted like shrimp concentrate. DELICIOUS! Our waiter knew English and checked on us to make sure we had the right utensils for our seafood. We were too full to order pregos to finish the meal. I cannot...
Read moreIt all starts with reservations... they apparently say they're fully booked, so there's always a queue, and it looks like everyone wants to go there... We gave our names and in less that 10min we were seated. Lots of empty tables. The waiter immediately told us he had the perfect wine for us. Indeed, it should be a good white one: "mar do inferno", but only later on, we saw it was a 2023 one... The table next to us was paying while we were choosing and they were asking the waiter to remove items from the bill. We also had a cheese we did not eat. We order lingueirâo and clams "bulhão pato". Lingueirão was like rubber and with sand! The clams seem to bland. They did not taste as it should. Sea food only boiled is delicious per se... it looked like they were mixed in gravy. Not hot when you cook clams you know the feeling! The waiter suggested Santola, and my friend who had never tasted it accepted the suggestion. It is very tasty but, when you don't get a lot of stuff, you tend to mix it... it has a whole bunch of pickles and mayonnaise to cover the shell. Toilets both men and women were so dirty! Not...
