Help Yourself Hostels Parede — Hotel in Cascais

Do yourself a favour and avoid this place. I have been to hundreds of hostels and this is the worse. Read this if you wanna have a laugh.

Rooms and bathrooms are dirty (found a broken cigarette under the pillow and there is hair everywhere), the staff are rude and no idea what they are doing: they nearly let us sleep on the street our first night: we were late on our check in time because our flight had been delayed and even though we previously sent an email and even though the staff was there at the reception of the hostel talking to us face to face, they simply didn’t want to turn on the computer to let us check in!!!! We literally had to beg them for 50 mins. When they finally turned on the computer and let us in, they didn’t want to give us the key of the lockers in our room because the manager wasn’t there (??) and then we never got them.

The next 2 days we tried numerous times to get in contact with the manager to make a complaint but no answer on the online number and email (probably no more active?) and the staff obviously refused to help us. When we finally managed to talk to the manager through another phone number, she listened to our complaint and apologised herself but then she told us we were not welcome anymore in the hostel and we had to leave on the moment 🙈 just a clown show. We had obviously to pay much more to get a last minute accomodation because there was nothing else available.

I am sure someone will answer to this review with some excuses as has been done before, but I hope anyway they will realise that this place needs some serious improvements, atm this place is worth not a dollar and it should be avoided especially from young...

Do not stay here!!! Please stay away from this hostel, a travelers warning to other fellow travelers. Its also dangerous to stay here if you get in a jam they will not help. We were arriving late, we emailed them, called them messaged them nothing and the plane was also delayed, when we arrived we had to beg on the street for 1.5 hours to let us in, even after they seen our booking and our emails they were going to force us sleep on the street. On our second day we asked to see the manager, never seen her just talked to her on the phone. She told us she had seen our emails, our calls and our text messages but she was too busy. We told her that wasnt good enough. So she called the police on us and kicked us out. We lost our money for the booking and had to pay a crazy amount to stay somewhere last minute. The cheapest hostel in Portugal and its rated 6/10 stars for value, figure that out.. Iv stayed in countless hostels and this is by far the worst. Please stay away its really bad, dont wreck your holiday stay the heck away...

The staff of the hostel were extremely kind, and welcomed me by helping me bring my bags up the stairs and showing me to my room and around the hostel. The space is not dance and very basic, and have a variety of personalities. The room also didn't smell the best but could be due to the fact that 6 people were living in a small room. The bunks are 3 levels, and the thin ladder could make climbing painful. I think it is important to be mindful that some of their guest are residents, and people who stay there out of necessity. I personally did not have the best luck and the person below my bunk was “self-pleasuring” and shook my bed for a a portion of the night which was disturbing. This was a young person who seemed to not have knowledge on cohabitating.

But outside of that experience they are located 5min from the beach and have an amazing chicken spot two doors down at an amazing price. I would not recommend to a young women, the space was very male dominated I was 1/2 women...
