Just finished dining at Rui dos Leitões, and this is one of those places one must visit as soon and as many times as possible. We were heading up to the in-laws for new years, but had to stop for dinner, so we searched for a suggestion from Google. We stepped out of the highway and headed to Rui's. The place is very well decorated and the staff is very welcoming and helpful. We started with a bottle of wine and green olives. The bread was very fresh and tasty. The hubby had Leitão obviously and I had the chateubriend, and let me tell you, it was absolutely amazing. The meat felt like butter in my mouth and the portion is just right for one person, but is enought to share. The Leitão was the best I've ever had, the meat was just falling off the bone and the skin was crackling like a chip. The waiters kept checking up on us, to see if everything was ok, if we needed anything, but in a very friendly, familial way. Felt like we were regular costumers, even tho we were there for the first time. For dessert we splitted a cup of Natas do Céu, and they didn't dissapoint. Very creamy and well balanced flavor. The price/quality is not even in question here. The bill amounted was about 25€ per person, but it was a bit more because we got a portion of Leitão to go. One of the best restaurants we discovered this year.

Legendary place for a whole pig roast. This is the main event so make sure you bring a large group to be able to finish the large portion. Garnished with oranges that are used in the marinade simply amazing. They also serve very simple yet rustic sides such as French fries and salad. They even have their own wine made especially for the restaurant. It's a great place to stop over if you are driving from Lisbon to Porto.

While driving from the Douro Valley to Óbidos, we came across this spot that looked too good to pass up—and we were glad we stopped. The leitão was a highlight, tender and juicy on the inside and nice and perfectly charred outside. Served with potato chips and a simple salad, it made for a delightful meal. Definitely worth pulling over for!

The place is popular We made reservation on Thursday at 2pm. When we arrived, there were still people waiting. The leitōe was superb. We ordered a portion to take away. It was wrapped in paper. We believe the taste would have been better if source were also provided.

It's fantastic the Leitao ( young piglet) meal. But make reservations ahead if it's a weekend ... and make sure you are truly starved... its a nice portion of good meal.. with side dishes of fried potatoes ...or rice ....

You cant go wrong here - delicious local roast piglet with chips and salad. Super crunchy skin and mouth watering tender meat. One to return to. Low profile but friendly service staff, you’re in good hands.
