Vista Do Comboio café & bar — Restaurant in Funchal

It was just far enough away from the Monte Tobaggan ride tourist trap, but on the walk home from there. In fact, Bus 27 stops out front of you want to ride the bus home. This is a local neighborhood bar, but the owner behind the counter is so friendly. With limited English and Portuguese, we communicated just fine! We felt welcomed. We had one sandwich, 2 fries (really, really good fries), and 4 small Coral beers for 14 Euros! The bus stop for #27 back to Funchal is right outside. Bathrooms in the basement are okay. Used this place most days as it was near our hotel and the 27 bus stop so nice for a cold beer when coming back up from the city. Had evening meal here twice. First time grilled limpets to start and chicken picado to share both excellent. Second time we were gutted that there were no limpets available but we had the beef picado for 2 and that was even more tasty than the chicken one. Fantastic view of the city from the terrace, friendly staff, cold beer and tasty food....

Excellent cafe/bar. My wife and I had just completed the basket cart ride and decided to walk back down into Funchal. We hadn't walked that far down when we saw a sign saying that this place was 100 meters to the right. We had delicious coffee and a refreshing beer. The price was excellent too.
