Disappointing.

Zé Pinto is lauded as an "hidden gem".

An old school, street "tasca", very typical of suburban and rural portuguese areas.

Indeed it is hidden in a shady neighbourhood in Benfica and getting there might not be so easy, despite there being a couple bus stops close by.

I was attracted by the portion sizes and the pictures posted here on Google, which seemed to depict some rather quality food at reasonable prices.

However, i had a very disappointing experience.

When i visited, the restaurant was practically empty and there were only a couple of people in there.

The food was brought in around 8 minutes after i arrived.

The first impression matched my initial expectations.

However, as i started tearing into the innermost parts of the steak, i started to notice the raw, uncooked meat as pictured below.

I asked the meat to be cooked medium and the core/center wasn't even rare. It was raw!

More than half of the steak was inedible and it seemed like however did the "cooking" was either on a rush or didn't know what he/she was doing.

Adding to the fact that getting there wasn't easy, the surrounding area isn't particularly welcoming, and i had to call an Uber to get out of there, this was a complete sham and the money i spent there would have been much better spent on a classier restaurant.

Straight to the "never to...

First time returning after 12 years at least. It used to be one of my usual places that you can never go wrong, before i emigrated. Happy to say, it still is.

I'm happy to see that some places never change and keep their authenticity. Places looks the same, menu is same, food tastes the same... i even recognised the same servers... "Entrecosto com arroz de feijao" has always been the winner dish.

Unfortunately, price is not the same. And still too much football vibe for my taste, that hasn't changed.

If you want to experience an old school portuguese restaurant in Lisbon...this is one...

A local and traditional Portuguese restaurant with homely flavours and great welcoming service. If you go towards the end of the week or the weekend you can expect this place buzzing with locals. The restaurant caters well to locals in the area with its solid and authentic Portuguese food, and this makes it a well kept secret that you'll probably only visit if you're close by and craving traditional flavours.
