I'm Portuguese, and I dont recommend this place.. As far as I can remember, I had here the worst service in a restaurant in Portugal. We ate sardines and ate outside on the esplanade. We arrived at 9:20pm (a Wednesday in August), and apparently they close at 10pm (not really sure, they didnt tell us exactly). They didn't show us the menu (and we requested it), they didn't tell upfront what was the price for the stuff we were getting, we ended up ordering sardines.. and they came with french fries.. (I can guarantee you this one is far from typical Portuguese or "American" as they claim). Around 10pm they proceeded with encouraging people out of the restaurant as we were still eating (they didnt push us out though), but in a kind of rough manner as far as we could understand. They turned off the lights inside the restaurant as we were still eating, we kept eating with street lights only. The waitress were not very perceptible, and note that we are native speakers. They then conveniently didnt have the card machine working, only cash (tax avoidance likely). I asked the receipt, and clearly the waitress didnt felt happy about it, and after asking again, he came back with a receipt for a totally different bill that he had charged someone else.. Overall I have to say I can't remember a restaurant in Portugal where I felt as uncomfortable eating as this one. About the sardines: we found out at the end that we had gotten a package of 15 euros per person including a small desert, soft drinks and coffee (that we know at least). Sardines were kind of OK, but 15 euros per person for what we ate in such a place is clearly not a great...
Read moreWhy can I not give 6 stars? Like, oh my god it was great. First the staff. Dear God was it entertaining. We came in around 9pm and it was loud, partially because of the customers but mainly the staff. Every 30 seconds something happens. Either a waiter strikes the table with a wine bottle or slaps a customers arm or grabs 2 heads and asks how the meal is or absolutely anything else that can catch your attention and keep you entertained. Second, the food. The order was taken immediately. We weren't handed a menu, which I found odd. The waiter simply gave us what's good today and we selected from that. What we ordered came to us really quick and was absolutely delicious. The prices were incredibly. 60 euro for 5 main courses 2 beers 2 pepsis and 2 glasses of sangria. Sorry that I couldn't take any photos but I was too distracted by the menu being slammed shut in front of a customers face. It was all so comedic and entertaining that we didn't even consider the costs. I actually forgot that we took desserts. It is absolutely haywire but in all the right ways. I don't know what it looks like with babies, but I don't think coming in with a baby is a good idea because of the noise. Without babies however, don't think twice. You're thoroughly going to enjoy the next hour and half that feels like 30 mins. Real portuguese experience
Forgot to add. They don't accept card but when we said we don't have enough cash we were told to sit, order and eat, we can pay later. Once we ate I left with my dad to get to the atm my mom and 2 brothers were kindly entertained. Very trusting, friendly, funny...
Read moreBest place where I've eaten in years as price quality offer. They have some dishes everyday, always super fresh. You can choose between meat dishes or fish dishes. For 15€/ pax you get a super tasty soup, fish (whole fish, dorada or sea bass for example) or meat ( giant steak ), small salad, potatoes (either boiled or fried), than you get a home made dessert ( many choices) and coffe and as well a bottle of wine or beer as you prefer. And all that for 15€/ pax!!!! All high quality, super nice staff and service. We've been there 5 times now and every single time they pass to ask if everything is ok and if we need anything. Tomorrow we'll go again for the last time since we'll leave Quarteira but we were lucky enough to discover them from our first night! There's no other place like this in the whole world. Not even in Romania you don't get to eat so much and drink bottled wine with 15€/ pax. I really don't get how can someone give them less than 5 stars.... I've seen some reviews of 1 star that are impossible to be true... I mean com'on!!! That is the same people that pays 15€ for a margherita and 7€ for a glass of bad wine and they are happy about it....
If I could take Piri-piri with me around the world I...
