We walked into Tribulum to Vlada with a huge smile & gracious welcoming - I knew we had chosen well. We sat outside on their large, comfy seating terrace listening to the talented guitar player sing great tunes. Watching the gorgeous sunset as we sipped righteous bespoke cocktails that David the awesome mixologist constructed for us. Mary feckin pumpkins was the perfect Fall drink - crazy delicious- I now have a new craving. My fella got Old & Oaky - we are what we Drink! We continued our evening in the beautiful dining room with a breathtaking view of the town. Every server was attentive & happy to be working, a clear indication that Johnny & Justin are very good people/managers. David stood out for us as his customer service was on point- he loves what he does! Everything we ordered was delicious- highlights for me: Burnt butter, fermented carrots & the bread- I could have made a meal of this alone- Scallops were seared to perfection Smoked salmon mousse on brioche - you lick your fingers so you get All the goodness Duo of lamb cooked a perfect temperature & the morçela stuffed lap could make you pick up the plate & lick it clean! Ginger & plum duck breast was not only a huge portion- all three of us agreed the tastiest duck we have had in a long time. Finishing with the cheese plate will gorgeous homemade chutneys & a wickedly good fig crème brûlée. To top off this perfect evening all of the staff members came out to sing happy birthday to our son - & with pure customer service beautiful Vlada made sure they knew his name. As we left we received a warm, kind goodbye from everyone, an experience everyone wants when they leave a restaurant. Our first time here & truly will not be our last as yes I’m craving...
Read moreHad a lovely dinner at Tribulum. We did not have a reservation, however in April it's not as busy in the Algarve and there were only two of us, so we had no problem getting seated right away. The service was excellent. We never felt rushed or ignored. Our first two wine choices were not available so we asked for a recommendation from our server and it was right on point. I had the Turbot fillet, which was tender and flaky, and the orange added a pleasant fresh taste. My husband ordered the Monkfish, which was also cooked to perfection. The ambiance was very nice, with a wall of windows and a view of the rolling hills. The music in the lounge area was a live singer with recorded jazz instruments. Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. This restaurant was lively and the servers were all friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are equivalent to those from the Boston area, if not a little less. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the creme brulee we had for dessert was a little over cooked. We will definitely check this restaurant's outdoor patio out when we return in the summer. Overall, I believe this is a great restaurant for a nice outing with friends or a romantic...
Read moreTwo of us visited Tribulum for lunch on a week day during the summer last year and had a lovely meal. We were very impressed and looked forward to returning.
In early March this year we finally made it back, this time for Sunday lunch and took a guest with us. Unfortunately, this was a very different experience. Service and food were both patchy, at best. We were a little surprised to be greeted and later, served by a member of staff wearing a dirty, stained apron. Having ordered, things did not improve. Following the starter, Two of us ordered the roast chicken. which came as a decidedly small portion. This was tough and dry. We had to ask a number of times to get a glass of wine and to be topped up.
The selection of desserts was disappointing at best and I was the only one of our party to try one, mainly because I was still hungry. My selection, which I believe was the Eton mess, with some kind of synthetic meringue, was disappointing and I left most of it.
Compared to our first visit, it was like eating at a completely different restaurant. If we are allowed back we will avoid the weekends and visit during the week in the hope of recapturing our first experience, which we...
