Nestled beside the rhythmic embrace of the Atlantic Ocean, Baía do Bago is a culinary gem that captures the heart of Madeira's gastronomic soul.
From the moment you step inside, the restaurant whispers promises of an extraordinary dining experience that goes far beyond mere sustenance.
The seafood here isn't just a dish—it's a celebration of the ocean's bounty. Each plate tells a story of fresh catches pulled directly from the surrounding waters, with flavors so vibrant they seem to dance on your palate. The glazed Octopus, a standout signature dish, is a testament to the chef's magical touch, transforming simple ingredients into a symphony of taste.
What truly sets Baía do Bago apart is its breathtaking views. The stunning Atlantic backdrop competes only with the culinary artistry on your plate, creating an atmosphere that feels both intimate and expansive.
Dressy couples lean in close, sharing moments over glasses of the region's famous Madeira pudding wine, adding to the restaurant's romantic ambiance.
The service is a well-choreographed performance—staff move with precision yet warmth, their knowledge of the menu as deep as the ocean outside. At just 50 euros for three courses, including drinks, service and that heavenly Madeira wine, this experience feels like an absolute steal.
For those seeking an authentic taste of Madeira that combines breathtaking scenery, impeccable service, and cuisine that tells a story, Baía do Bago is an unmissable destination. It's not just a meal; it's a journey through the flavors and spirit of this...
Read moreOwner is rude and quite gloomy to tourists. God forbid you come before 12 (when food starts), he will do whatever possible to persuade you not to sit. You can also not choose where to sit as if you arrive early he will give you the worst table. He claims that the others are reserved but there is no sign for that, he will put a sign after a few people have asked. This only applies for tourists thought. The nice tables with the best views are actually “reserved” for the locals. If you are local and/or old the owner will be much nicer. If you are both local and old (preferably over 80) he will fly to serve you first with a smile as he perhaps thinks you don’t have much time left. This leads to everyone else being serviced much slower, hence some of the other negative comments. This behavior from the owner rubs off on the staff as well and they are the same (therefore the cold glances and no responses mentioned in other comments). All except the older lady, she is friendly to everyone and is smiling. Food is good, better than other places, but it’s hard to rate the place highly only because of the food and the view, which is also seen from other restaurants nearby. All in all, if you are Portuguese and preferably old, it’s a 5/5 place. If not it’s a 2/5 place. Will work on my...
Read moreThis is a new business, which simply lacks the capacity to feed the number of people they have at a given time, but they opened as a 'restaurant' anyway. Why on earth would you put around 20 tables in a place with a simple home kitchen, where just 3 guys work? Pathetic. Plus, it is VERY expensive. We paid EUR 14.50 for a simple starter of shrimps, with which you get even more hungry. For almost the same price, I ate a huge mix of sea food in Tenerife only 3 months ago. I have given the extra star just because the head waiter / owner (don't know who he was) was kind enough to apologize for the situation over and over, and the cod dish was actually quite good. But this shouldn't obscure the fact that the [wait time + performance] / price ratio was abysmal. You just can't run that place with that kitchen, it simply shouldn't be allowed. Waves in the ocean are surely a nice sight, but they cease to do the trick when you watch them with a hungry stomach...
