We visited Casa Galega during our recent Christmas season trip to Portugal. Now installed in fully renovated premises, a stunning refurbishment of an old building with architectonic taste and criteria. In the guests dining area, the imposing character of the old building with the structural walls exposed revealing the old and original materials used during the 19th and early 20th centuries, with the 'tabique' masonry walls with wooden bars cage for seismic stability in evidence. The ID and decor were with great taste and also reveal the heavy investment made in the restaurant and how confident Fernando and family are that the capital spending in their food and amazing cuisine will pay off. The food was at the very high level their clientele is used to be. We went to 'arroz de lavagante' lobster rice for gentlemen, and the ladies choose the new entry to the menu the 'bitoque de lagosta' kind of lobster burger, all at great level and tasteful choices, although the menu has much more to satisfy all kinds of cravings. Amazing deserts to top it all, with a number of traditional and modern portuguese pastries and sweets to choose from. The wine bar is furnished with relevant choices for all occasions, less and more expensive as you like and may afford. The bill was not a surprise, since we are all used for the heavy stick to come in the end, when everyone is already in half way to the heavens and clouds, fully treated for the pleasures of mouths, stomachs and brains. For when the all wished, aimed and desired star in the sky of Casa Galega? That no one knows, since it still is in the mysteries of the tyres&rubber gentlemen of...
Read moreBeing a single diner I was hesitant to go into restaurant, waitress made effort to get me a table however her colleague waiter said there was no space initially. The food was good, I had the squid as recommended by my waiter which was fresh. Rice was ok, didn't feel as fresh. Enjoyed dessert too. The head waiter or may have been owner spoke to all tables but not me. Not sure why but again being a single diner you notice these things. I personally couldn't care less for small talk and can think of few reasons why he didn't bother but would recommend next time take the time out to extend your hospitality as you did with other diners and from what I can see other diners experienced to the same thing. My waiter was perfectly lovely. Decor is lovely. Go here instead of Os Arcos across the road. Same pricing but much better quality food and...
Read moreThe cost is too high. Only tourists pay €20 euros for drinks - mud on my face! They'll also add on the tip and charge for every thing they 'offer' you -so beware. Decline the salmon paste and bread and olives for which they'll charge you a ridiculous price. Honestly- most expensive place we've seen here and nor because it's worth it. We ordered one cocktail, a bottle of wine and a bowl of soup. They were so nice to bring bread and a shrimp something appetizer (the soup was good) but the bill was $130 (€120 euros)! due to cost of extras, water, tip etc... Had a much better meal and got what we actually ordered for 1/3 to 1/4 the amount in every other establishment. walk around the corner to the pasta - pizza place and have tortellini and wine for €12. Avoid This...
