If you’re close by Póvoa de Varzim, this place is definitely a must. The best rotisserie chicken you’ll ever taste. The service is pretty quick and the place always has a line up. There are other chicken restaurants very close by but this place seems to always be favourited by the locals. When I say the locals I don’t only mean people from Póvoa, but from everywhere in Portugal, specially the Northern Portugal. The line ups go quickly and there’s seating for nearly 1000 people. The parking lot is quite large and with some patience you’ll find a parking spot. You’re greeted by someone just outside of the restaurant and they’re checking to make sure you’re fully vaccinated against Covid 19. As I write this review masks are still a requirement. It may be a little difficult to see in my photos but all the holes you see in the stainless steel are for the spits that turn to make your chicken. You could choose other items from the menu, however, the specialty, and people come from far and wide to have their chicken. The sauce is supposed to be spicy, I didn’t find it spicy but I have a very high tolerance for spicy food. The company that I was with all agreed that the sauce was spicy. So, ya I travel with a bunch of wussies. The chicken was served with French fries, but you could order salad as well. I noticed the bathrooms were down a set of stairs and I didn’t see a ramp so if you have mobility issues you might want to be aware of this. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone planning on visiting Northern Portugal. Sejam...
Read morePerhaps this restaurant is famous due to its popularity in social networks but I must say that food is 100% rubbish in terms of Portuguese gastronomy. Grilled chicken is overcooked, dry, oily and tasteless. If your culinary reference is a Big Mac or a Whopper, maybe Casa dos Frangos is a paradise for you. Poor quality products, bad service, queuing for so long and an unpleasant smell of urine coming up from toilets are the reality of this place. The worst part of our supper was the terrible service provided. The old man who helped us treated as almost like cuttle instead of persons. What is more, this waiter overlooked us during our stay in this restaurant. It seemed as if he were forgiving us for being alive or so. Perhaps he already born upset with the world... Or simply he behaved as a superior creature because we were foreigners.
I won't never ever back to this place. I'd prefer dieing of starving to having another meal in such...
Read moreEnter: Two clueless Pilgrims fresh off the Camino trail with minimal (Read:None) Portuguese to offer and any common sense drained from exhaustion and hunger. The staff at Casa Dos Frangos went above and beyond to help us, even despite the language barrier. They explained the system, provided much needed help, made suggestions, and delivered some of the best chicken, fries, and pork rib we had ever had, in or out of Portugal. We likely made it more difficult than intended (apologies), but the restaurant handled it with extreme graciousness, consideration, and kindness. Thank you! If you’re hungry and in Póvoa de Varzim, there’s no question of...
