Funky Donkey Pizza — Restaurant in Peniche

It was night time, lots of zero street lighting and dirt roads through what looked like a marsh in pitch blackness. Finally we found our way out of the darkness to Funky Donkey!! In all honesty, we did not eat here tonight, because we'd already had dinner in Peniche. BUT, we are two 65 year olds who are vacationing in Portugal with a rental car. We were beyond lost trying to get back to our hotel ( thank you MAPS ) and after going in circles for almost 2 hours we stopped in at Funky Donkey to get some help. We had just called an uber just so we could follow it back to our hotel. The two gentleman working at this cute pizza place which smelled DIVINE by the way were amazingly helpful and kind. We were tired, frustrated and nervous and they saw that and made us feel so much better with their words and empathy. They do not know what they did for us tonight I am sure because it was just their nature. One of the gentleman came outside just in case our uber driver didn't speak English. We can't thank you guys enough and next time we are here ( we LOVE Portugal) we will definitely have some pizza at the Funky Donkey! Very very bad service. It's not my first time here and it was really disappointing. The waitress is really rude, not professional at all. After ordering pizzas for take away, they told us the time it will be ready. We arrived at that time and said we needed to wait 15m. We waited and went back there, they told us we needed to wait 20 minutes more with no explanation, while laughing and making jokes amongst the staff. Great pizzas. Good vibes here. Too bad there’s not much space to dine in. It’s more a takeout place. They’ve a few small tables outside. Come and order before your hunger says hello, because it’s a looooong waiting time. They’re with 5 staff, they’ve a giant pizza wood oven but can’t follow the orders.
