The Rio Lima is a fairly new restaurant which has wasted no time in getting to the top of the Tripadvisor ratings and so we were keen to give it a go. For a small restaurant it was wise to book ahead for a busy Sunday lunch. First impressions were very positive. The place is attractive and well laid out and the staff courteous. We started with the salmon tartar which was easily the highlight of the meal. Not only was the salmon delicious but the dressing too. Unfortunately from here we were a little disappointed. The turbot was well cooked and tasty but that was it, served with a few punched potatoes and a tiny salad of sliced tomatoes and lettuce. It was fine but we were expecting a bit more. Likewise the pork loin was pretty much as you would expect from any run of the mill Portuguese restaurant in the area. €82 for 1 starter, 3 mains and a bottle of wine was quite reasonable. Looking at some of the other reviews maybe we could have made...
Read moreWe arrived in Ponte d Lima and being hungry we made a beeline to this well reviewed restaurant. We were informed that only Portuguese cards were taken but thought we’d use cash and stay because of the good reviews. Pluses, our server was nice, the drinks were lovely and cold - minuses, the entrees arrived at different times & having asked how we wanted our duck (we have a son who would have liked a burger - but were told he was too old), it was clearly overdone and tasted like it was served with blueberry jam. This was disappointing. The outside seating was pleasant. There was a weird note on the menu about 5€ cover for cutlery and glasses per person - what would we have eaten with?! Luckily no weird charge appeared. Overall it felt overpriced for what it was and being asked to pay inside whilst looking at a screen vs being given a bill was a bit odd. The ice cream place across from...
Read moreWe visited the restaurant whilst on holiday. Firstly to say that the service was first class. I chose a steak dish and my partner chose a fish dish. She loved it and was very impressed with the cooking and flavours. However, surprisingly the steak was not a good cut and was tough despite being cooked medium rare. I wasn’t impressed at all especially as it was one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. The chef took the time to talk to all the guests in the restaurant and I explained that the steak was not good. He said he would be speaking with his supplier and apologised. We paid the full price for the meals although if I had been in a UK restaurant and spoke the language I would have sent the steak back and asked for something different on the menu. Service...
