Update: This establishment supports men who grab women they don't know from behind their backs while having lunch alone. I was grabbed by a local old man while I sat having lunch alone at a different café. This man has been following me, staring at me for days. It was most certainly raining too. Came here for a coffee, as I have a few other days in the last week. It was raining hard, so my service dog and I picked a table inside, in the corner. He went on place under the table, and I set my bag down. I then explained to the waitress about the service dog, used a translating app to explain too. Unsure of if she understood, and feeling dizzy, I ordered the coffee and sat down. At this time I began to feel worse, dizzier, lightheaded, and my heart rate was increased, with a bit of confusion... I sat and waited, no coffee arrived but the Police did, to my surprise. I was asked to provide documentation, and explain the intimate details of why I need a service dog, my personal medical info, etc... awkward but no problem, I did so. The kind officers then explained this to the staff, which seemed to upset them, and they went back and forth while I sat there, too sick to advocate for myself to get something with sugar or any food that would have helped me out a great deal... the officers asked me more questions about my service dog, etc and then relayed the information to the staff. Finally, the officer asked me if I still wanted the coffee. I agreed and stated I didn't feel well enough to leave after the incident, nor go back out into the rain. Coffee was dropped off and then began the staff talk of my service dog in Portuguese and a slew of awkward comments for the next hour, that I barely understood, but I caught some words here and there. Being that ill earlier, I finally broke down, and cried under my hair. Embarassed, isolated, alone, and exhausted. No one should be treated this way, especially someone sick and in need of a medical aid or working dog... For the restaurant to go and call the local police quietly with the attempt to try to kick someone out, who clearly looked pale and weak with a medical aid, vested and labeled SERVICE DOG & WORKING: DO NOT PET, to try and kick me back out into the storm when I came in to buy a meal and enjoy the atmosphere, as I did in the previous days sucked big time. I left a note with the staff that said "Where ever you travel, may you be welcomed with open arms, despite any differences you may have," in both English and Portuguese. Do better, guys. This should never have happened like this. I am highly disappointed in this business, and the behavior I witnessed today. I hope more training can take place so that no other customers ever experience this blatant discrimination and harassment for...
Read moreBOM DIA! Found this place on my vacation with my lurve we went here a few nights and the food was awesome! The limpets were by far the best we have found on the island thus far and the squid skewer was great. The second night we shared some fish dishes and they also were very good . I was worried about not speaking the language but all of the staff was super friendly and helpful. This place had a relaxed outdoor dining area right next to the beach with games and plenty to keep you busy for a full night. I will definitely be coming back here when I return to this...
Read moreThis lovely little café was one of the few open on New Year's Day, fortunately we arrived early and saw it at its best before hoards of fellow passengers from the cruise ship swamped the place! Staff were doing their best to keep up with orders but it became very crowded. We enjoyed a couple of coffees and a local beer before the invasion! Good for business but we preferred it quieter so we could enjoy the views and chat to locals. Would recommend putting a sticker on the flush in the ladies toilet so people can see it and then...
