The best traditional restaurant in almost four weeks of travel in Portugal. What a gem of a find in the old walled area of the town of Sortelha. We just went in for a coffee, but the restaurant was so beautiful that we had to try some of the food. The owner and his spouse took 18 months to renovate the place by hand, and they support locally grown produce. We ordered the soup à Cardo, made from ingredients local to Sortelha, and a traditional stew called Grainha. This was my favorite – flavorful and scrumptious. After a while we asked the waitress what happened to the fish. She first said she was waiting until we finished the chorizo, and only after i told her that her answer is fishy she admitted she forgot to write it down.
