We were looking for a local simple restaurant with typical local food. When we saw this place in beginning we thought it is too fancy for us. But for the name "Taberna" we went inside, as it means local simple restaurant in Portuguese. Decoration is just what we like: local, typical, a lot of space. At 19h00 we were first guest and very fast get the food. The girl waitress was very kind. From our 2 plates one was too fantastic - a stew with meat of kind of goat in port wine sauce. The other plate - the rice with pork and local weed spice - was ok, but nothing new about taste. The plates are big. We would like to have bigger choice of local desserts. There was only one local- fresh cheese with jam of pumpkin. Amazing. In the same place there is a store with local cheeses and sausages, thus in the beginning it smells like cheese. But we (humble tourists) find joy in it. ;) Price is cheap and ok. Overall 5 stars. Hope we will be back one day to Seia and try the alheira....
Read moreOverrated restaurant. I honestly don't know why a TV network would show it as a recommended Seia restaurant.
One of the staff seemed to be upset with having to serve people ( the restaurant was empty when we got there so it wasn't stress), showing indignation that we hadn't picked our dishes when we had the menu for about 30 seconds.
The food wasn't bad, but the chicken doses are small and overpriced. The scrambled eggs and farinheira entreé was good and the portion was decent though.
No attention was paid to covid-19 social distancing as the next table's occupied chair was literally touching mine.
We didn't order desserts as we just wanted to get out asap and avoid all those people.
No clue why there was a line outside. I guess it's because of that TV report.
I do not recommend this place for all the reasons above. I won't be...
Read moreGreat food, great service, all at excellent prices. We had the Alheira com broa e presunto and the scrambled eggs with tomatoes - both were excellent. We were ordering 2 main courses and the waitress suggested that we only order 1 as the portions were big. Turned out to be spot on. The main course was a rice dish flavoured with a local herb (Arroz de Carqueja), very tasty and plenty big enough for 2. Looking around the restaurant, at least 5 other tables were having this. We had dessert and coffees and paid just over €30 for the 2 of us!!! They also have a shop attached selling local wines, cheeses, ham, chorizo, Alheira and preserves. The service was excellent (worth mentioning again). Very happy and would go...
