A Barraca — Restaurant in Vila do Bispo

On a delightful Sunday evening, my partner and I stumbled upon charming little restaurant with a breautiful view of the sea. I really enjoyed the food that I simply had to shower the chef with compliments! My absolute favorite was a local specialty (unfortunately, the name escapes me), a kind of polenta and fish that delivered an authentic explosion of flavors! And let's not forget the Octopus salad, hands down the best we've ever had in all of Algarve – it was incredibly fresh and scrumptious. The Pica-pau was a delectable treat, and we wrapped up our dinner with a beautifully prepared vegetarian cabbage dish that was simply exquisite.

Moreover, the restaurant has a nice selection of local wines, creating a perfect pairing with the meal. The ambiance was just right, setting the stage for a truly memorable dining experience. And our waiter? Well, he was like the Portuguese incarnation of Freddy Mercury, adding a touch of charisma and charm to the evening....

Didn’t eat here, so we can’t comment on food. However - we did have cocktails here and can say that they do the best cocktails in Burgau! Staff were excellent - very friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere was very good - apart from a bit of a shame that the outside area is surrounded by plastic tent styled windows rather than glass windows. I think if they made this area more permanent, it would really step up the feel of the place. Also the music seemed to be catered for the retired English - classic 80-90s “cheese”. Let’s have either some authentic Portuguese music or some English music with a bit more class (coming from and Englishman!). Apart from these 2 points - really excellent venue and I would happily return there again for more cocktails and to try...

We have been coming to (formerly) The Hut for c.20 years. On Sunday we returned to the restaurant under new ownership, excited at the prospect of a fresh and new local eatery! My partner had the prawn cocktail to start and then we both had golden bream for the main. Unfortunately, since Sunday my partner has had food poisoning which has tainted our holiday! The food and drink bill was also much higher than other local restaurants (e.g. the beach bar). However, the views are lovely, staff are very welcoming and polite, and a buzzy atmosphere. Just please ensure the prawns are fresh and cooked properly...
