Scarpetta — Restaurant in Al-Daayen

This so named Italian Restaurant is located in the wonderful Hotel Waldorf Astoria in Lusail, the part of DOHA. We have had the choice between sitting inside or outside. We decided to sit outside on the Terrace with view at the Seaside, Swimmingpool and other lighted Buildings. At once you see the difference in Design. Inside it is well designed but the AC is adjusted that you will feel freezing within minutes. Outside the Design is very basic and you don't believe that you are sitting in this Luxury Hotel. At the side with view at the Pool and Seaside you cannot even read the Menu because there is no light! One small little lamp on the table isn't helpful at all. The tables are not stable. They are shaky and this is depending on the construction! They are just simple and cheap! The Menu is showing Standard Meals. There is whether a Special of the day nor other offers which really would show the taste of Italy. It doesn't reminds me at Holidays in Italy. Some of the prices are extremely high. For example: Veal is offered at a price of 330 QAR.

From the House we have received an Amuse Bouche: Undefined Mousse on a piece of bread. Then Bread, Butter and Oil was served. The taste hasn't impressed me. We ordered: Pizza with very spicy Salami = 110 QAR The other Main was FETTUCINI AL RAGU= 105 QAR The bottle of Benedetto Mineralwater was charged with 35 QAR. The Service wasn't attentive. It was an amazing evening dinning at Scarpetta, the service was very good, timely and the waiter was very attentive, good conversationalist and very keen on answering any questions we had about the ingredients in the food we had ordered, for example I asked about the cheese used in the Pumpkin Risotto and he was more than obliged to share with us the exact name and give suggestions on where we could get it from, in my opinion it doesn’t get any better than in terms on customer service.

As for the food, everything we had was delicious, the ingredients were clearly very fresh and of the highest quality, the good folks back in the kitchen clearly know what they’re doing and actually enjoy making great food, I was very pleasantly surprised, the tiramisu was absolutely perfect.

And finally, I had lodged in a special request to add some candles to the table (which they had already) but even then, they still obliged by placing extra candles and dressed the table in rose petals and truly created a lovely romantic setting for my lady and I, hats off to the team for granting such a late request from my part.

Even though the restaurant is located at the luxury Waldorf Astoria hotel, Scarpetta is one of few I would call lifestyle restaurants in Doha that you please to go as for a special occasion as for just an amazing dine out experience. I’ve got attracted first by their Aperitivo Italiano offer that they have daily from 17:00 till 20:00 at the lounge. The food bites are super delicious and different style from usual happy hour offers around the city. We loved it. And then main dining menu is a different level, my favorite homemade pasta (particular ravioli cacio e pepe) takes you directly to Italy. Need to go regularly to try everything from the menu but always remember to keep the space for their Valrhoha chocolate cake that served with caramel gelato and thank me later. Overall i’m very confident in recommending this place as I went there several times and they consistent in delivering amazing service and delicious food. And also it is very important that average cheque is very reasonable, your dinner won’t cost an arm and leg.
