The food is good, prices are a bit high compared to other nearby places that look better and have quicker serving. More details below!
There were only 3 tables busy when we ate here, but ordering 2 very basic dishes (grilled chicken breast and grilled trout) took them almost half an hour to serve. If I ordered these at Hilton it would've taken less than 10 minutes and be 10 lei cheaper for each dish. How do I know? Because I did order very similar dishes the day before :)
As someone else mentioned in the reviews, the staff is not that customer oriented, they all gathered at a table once all orders were in, socialized and gossiped quite loudly, then one of them did a video call with her relatives, right near other patrons. I get that these people spend their entire day at work, but I wonder what would my boss say if I socialized with colleagues and family instead of taking care of client emails and meetings...
I did mention places that look better and I did it for a reason. Although Medieval Cafe does look authentic at a first glance, the tables are covered with plastic wraps, the wooden floors are covered with cheap green carpet, there are cables dangling out of the light fixtures, in the bathroom there was a toilet paper roll instead of a light bulb, the paint is faded and has water spots, some of the walls have chips and dents, a couple of the umbrellas are broken and torn, the menus were soaking wet because they were left in a quick summer rain and the list of neglects goes on.
Overall this place gave me the impression that it got neglected after the previous renovation and the owners are patching it up as much as they can to postpone the next renovation, although running a business requires constant updates and maintenance, not every 5 years. Or it could be that they don't care and try to squeeze every penny they can out of it. In any case, I don't see this place surviving for much longer while there are so many cleaner, better maintained and cheaper...
Read moreThe experience here was disappointing, mainly due to misleading menu translations. We ordered the Festin Medieval, which in the Romanian menu says it's a 1100g platter including meat, potatoes, and sides. But in the English version, only the meats are listed — no mention of potatoes or sides — which made us believe the 1100g referred to meat only.
In reality, the actual meat portion was probably around half of that, the rest being potatoes. The food itself was just okay — nothing special. Definitely not worth the price based on what you actually get.
Because of the unclear menu, we also ordered the Dracula Potatoes, expecting we needed extra sides to go with what we thought was over a kilo of meat. But those turned out to be just regular roasted potatoes with a bit of chili sauce — nothing impressive, and basically the same potatoes that already came with the platter.
We brought up the misleading translation to the staff, but no solution or discount was offered.
Overall, the food was average, but the lack of clear communication and misleading menu made the experience underwhelming, especially...
Read moreIt's easy to pass by without noticing it as it could be dismissed as just another 'themed' restaurant (all the better to keep the avalanche of tourists from coming). We stumbled by it accidentally and had one of the most memorable nights. First of all, the service is friendly, great with suggesting the right match of dishes and drinks. The place itself is beautifully decorated (but not overdone) and one would recommend the small but intimate inner courtyard. If you're lucky to grab one of the two tables on the upper floors outside you'll be treated with a stunning view of the clock-tower. The food is delicious, made with fresh ingredients. Desserts were equally tasty. *try their smoked-beer and purchase their homemade jams
I rarely write online reviews but this experience was certainly worth it. Highly...
