They could have paid me and still I wouldn't have stayed here. Google should introduce 0 stars just for this place.
Here's my 2 cents (the rest is free): Front desk guy (let's call him FDG from now because he is a recurring theme) is clearly overworked; we saw him in the morning, late at night, and again the next morning. Did he sleep at all? We know he's a nice guy, but you don't have to milk him like that. FDG also appeared somewhat disoriented at times. He repeatedly got our names wrong, with the same wrong name. In 10 minutes I saw at least 5 guys walk up to poor FDG and ask him where the restaurant was. Those people actually walked past the restaurant door to get to FDG. A proper sign would ease his misery very much I'm sure. We had to wait till 3PM to check in. FDG is doing the check ins on an Excel spreadsheet. Little wonder we had to wait till 3PM. The only fan in the room was broken. It doesn't rotate, and the top speed button had a nice piece of tape running over it. We got the hint - it's broken. A call to our favourite discombobulated FDG about the fan was in vain. We knew he wouldn't be able to show up with a new fan. He would first need a new Excel sheet. No shower curtain over the bathtub. Hello wet floor. And goodbye if someone should slip and accidentally get killed. The furnishing is bare to the bones and yet still manages to scream for replacement. If furniture could get raped, this is what it would look like. I know they take their medieval theme seriously, but this is a tad too far. The shower head holster in the bathroom is broken, and the mirrors are cracked. Some other installations in the bathroom beneath the mirror are also broken. We don't even know what to call them, because we don't even know what they were in the first place.
Actually, I could name you the stuff that weren't broken and that would save me a lot more time than writing about all the broken stuff. But then it would have taken the fun out of writing all...
Read moremixed review: restaurant excellent; hotel not... restaurant: there is a full service restaurant here serving 3 meals a day open 8am - 10pm continuously with bar and 3 separate dining areas - outfront in the main square of the town, inside formal dining room, outback in the courtyard; menu is well balanced, good variety and priced nicely; high-quality food and good service from career style waiters. hotel: huge for the size of town located in two buildings across three floors and very much in character in historic buildings that complement the town ambiance plus it couldn't be in a finer location. that's where the good part ends; the rest is short of a disaster, a sorry disappointment for a place that oozes with potential, but unfortunately they did not make the most of the downtime during the pandemic to spruce up the place; the bathrooms in the rooms lack a cab style shower, instead you have an old fashion tub with no walls and a handheld only spicket, therefore water goes everywhere and creates a mess. There is no air conditioning, you have to ask for a fan (ceiling fans should be added to each room), the windows, doors and furniture stick and are difficult to open or maneuver; and the wifii is extremely weak. this is a beautiful historic property that just needs some tlc, inexpensive fixes. suggest the staff & owners spend a night in each room to work out the kinks, while also visiting properties in other parts that have modernized and have high ratings to learn what features could...
Read moreRead moreThe GOOD: comfortable bed, nice comforter; best feta at breakfast; bathtub (we like baths)|The BAD: Very dim lighting in room; no updates, ever: the bedspread, towels and carpeting have got to be decades old. The bedspread was dirty and torn; the towels threadbare, frayed and some torn (although clean); the bathtub with a shower sprayer, but no holder for it or shower curtain/wall, so water would go everywhere; no "do not disturb" sign, and telling the front desk we don't want service didn't work; keys/locks to room are difficult to work dangerous. (One couple in our group just left their room unlocked); 2 chairs in room, one broken. No coffee/tea/water for drinking in room|The WORST: breakfast opens at 8am. Coffee machine in breakfast area operated by pressing a button (that guests operate). When we attempted to get coffee to bring to our room at 6 am (same easy to operate button) the night clerk heard the machine, rushed in and tried to grab the cup, saying "No coffee until 8"....Terrible customer service. This guy doesn't belong working with people. (The other night clerk was fine with early coffee, admitting that he, too, drinks...
