This was my initial visit to the Ruby Slipper Cafe. It is primarily a breakfast restaurant with a number of innovations on the menu. By design, the restaurant is reminiscent of a New Orleans cafe but probably more neat and clean than many still in business in that city. The first time I encountered a restaurant that was advertising alcoholic beverages for breakfast was in New Orleans. That tradition appears to be a feature at the Ruby Slipper as well. This feature will likely be very popular with spring breakers in the area and with a similar demographic during the busy summer months with lots of energy and an urge to drink to liven up the social activity. For others, an alcoholic beverage accompanying bacon or sausage with toast and eggs may be less of a temptation and more of an unnecessary expense. The dining room is neat and clean and looks new. I did not go into the bar area but it was clearly visible and had a pleasant design with numerous drinks advertised with a large sign on the wall. It would take a number of visits to try the various dishes. The menu displays numerous dishes with peppers, onions, and other similar ingredients. On the other side of the ledger, there are a number of dishes with very sweet ingredients. For example, there is a dish called "WHITE CHOCOLATE BREAD PUDDING PANCAKES." This dish is pancakes filled with white chocolate bread pudding and cinnamon sugar topped with white chocolate whiskey sauce. Perhaps that goes well with a mimosa or bloody mary. The dish is probably tasty with sweet sugar and a touch of whiskey as well. There are no calories listed for any of the dishes but, no doubt, this number would be very high. But, for those who are not as adventurous or just not wanting to indulge in a huge caloric intake, there are regular pancakes available. On this occasion, the breakfast selected was just an omelet. The kitchen was able to substitute spinach for the onions and peppers (there was an extra charge for the change). The omelet was cooked as it should have been but was greasy, detracting from the appearance and quality. The biscuit that accompanied the omelet tasted good. It was heavy rather than light and fluffy as biscuits are sometimes prepared. Having visited New Orleans a few times and enjoyed the cafe au lait and beignets at the Cafe du Monde there, I had visions of a similar experience at the Ruby Slipper. That was an unreasonable expectation. There were beignets available. They were under the "Winter Specials" category. They were described as "New Orleans-style beignets with vanilla & chocolate chip cannoli filling, whiskey cream sauce, whipped cream and green sugar." The beignets I expected paled by comparison as the ones I enjoyed were only covered with powdered sugar. I passed on this opportunity to experience a physical high with the intake of excessive sugary concoctions. Perhaps, in the spirit of the season, I would have succumbed to temptation after consuming several of the alcoholic beverages available with breakfast. The service was very good. Shelby was pleasant and efficient and helpful in making a selection. Ruby Slipper is a unique, New Orleans-style restaurant in the area. It is new to the area. It is likely to be successful with the influx of young tourists seeking a New Orleans-type of dining experience while on vacation.

This is my first time visiting Destin. I usually like to try new restaurants when I visit a different city/state. There’s a First Watch very close to the hotel in which I’m staying. However, I’ve been to First Watch several times in my home state (Texas). I was so excited to go to Ruby Slipper. I was the first and only person there at 7:15 on a Saturday morning. That should’ve been the first red flag. Katie was my waitress. She was super nice. I ordered the fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and a peach Bellini. The fried green tomatoes were okay, nothing to really be hyped about. The shrimp and grits were not good at all. Katie did tell me it would have a brown roux on the grits. I didn’t think it would be a big deal, but the brown roux was absolutely terrible. The grits were thin and runny. I only ate the shrimp. The biscuit that came with it was pretty good. The peach Bellini was okay. It was quite strong. Now what made me really mad was that I was not quite done with my peach Bellini. Katie asked if I wanted it to go and I said sure. I thought she was going to put the remainder of my peach Bellini in a plastic cup for me. However, she gave me a plastic cup with a new batch of peach Bellini. I thought oh how nice of her to just refill it with a new batch of peach Bellini. When I got my ticket, she charged me for another Peach Bellini. I didn’t make a big deal because I guess I should’ve asked and I was so ready to get out of there. Needless to say, I won’t be returning back to this place. The customer service is superb, but the food is subpar. I should’ve gone to First Watch and would’ve paid half of what I paid at Ruby slipper. I also encourage you to read the lower rated reviews. If I would’ve read them before going, then I would’ve just gone to First Watch. I’m definitely kicking myself in the butt for not going to First Watch.

Visited Ruby slipper cafe today march 17,2024 for the first time with my wife and I wasn’t sure what to expect but it definitely made me a fan for life with today’s experience. I started my brunch of with a creamy vanilla iced coffee topped off with nutmeg and whipped cream which was 3/5 so can’t complaint and the wife got a peach mimosa which was also about 3/5. They did have a few alcoholic mixed drinks to choose from but maybe another time I’ll try some, someone’s gotta drive right? Continuing on with our dining experience I ordered the “three little piggies” omelette served normally with grits and a biscuit but I substituted the grits out for a pancake the meal also came with a biscuit… this is where I have to stop because that biscuit alone deserves its own 5 star review my lord is that butter buiscuit the most moist delicious biscuit I have ever tasted in my life nothing even compares. The omelet was filled with cheddar ham, sausage and bacon and it was very filling, the home fries were cooked to perfect and that pancake with their homemade sweet butter syrup was top notch. This meal cost around $15 not including the drink or pancake but it was well worth it. The pancake I feel wasn’t worth $4.95 maybe $2 to substitute but let’s be real it’s Destin and tourist are gunna buy it. My wife had alittle mishap with the “build your own omelette” the omelette was someone else and only noticed after she took a bite but the waitress was absolutely great and fixed her meal and with the cooks and had her meal out and served within minutes and was so apologetic. We both loved the meal and highly recommended you’re visiting the area give this place a try

My fiancé, best friend and her husband went to The Ruby Slipper Cafe in Destin while on vacation on March 8th, it was my 50th birthday weekend. We were seated quickly and was hosted by 2 very fun and upbeat ladies named Kirsten and Ashley. Kirsten was our server and was on point with everything! She checked on us frequently but allowed us to enjoy our food which was beyond phenomenal! Ashley brought our drinks and served my fiancé shots of tequila lol and even got him to take a shot of Uncle Nearest and shared that they were donating the money to HBCU’s which was so great to hear. They made sure we were well taken care of and we made sure to let it be known we were very pleased with their service! Now let’s get into this food! Listen if you’ve been to the original one in New Orleans then you know it’s good right? Well I’m sorry to say this one is even better! I had fried green tomatoes, an omelette and tots and a mimosa flight. My fiancé had the hot honey chicken and French toast bites and everything was BOMB! The food was so good we asked for them to bring the cook to the table to tell him how good it was! He came out and we gave that man so many compliments. His name is Ben and he was so humble and gracious. We told him we would be back and we ended right back there the next day lol. He sent us out complementary friend green tomatoes, French toast bites and beignets which were absolutely delicious! I could go on and on but just know if you are visit Destin…this is a MUST GO TO! Ciao~

So far this place is alright. Our server, who's in training, did fantastic. Very friendly, straightforward with what she did know or didn't know, none that make things up on that spot. She offered us time, options, and alternatives. Wonderful work on her end. Listening around, the servers seems to be getting fantastic training, many knew their menu well and the different options for food and drinks. With that level of knowledge and customer service skills, I can see this place becoming a solid 5 stars No one greeted us when we walked in. The host only spoke when he confirmed he heard me ask for a table for two. Didn't speak after that (or was muffled by his facemask), he looked down, grabbed some menus and walked away. Obviously not our first time at a restaurant so we assumed we should follow him, but some words would have been nice. Cappuccino was too wet for me to call it a Cappuccino. Honestly it was more of a hot latte topped with a little bit of foam. The ommellett wasn't quite what I was expecting in regards to the look and composition but it tasted pretty good nonetheless. The biscuits here are huge, was not ready, and delicious. The butter they have paired with it was amazing, I used it on my toast as well. The toast with that butter was my favorite part of this meal. Would come back here again and try a different meal.
